Afterpay Features
When you’re shopping online and ready to complete your purchase, you will see Afterpay as a payment option if you’re shopping with a participating retailer. The service will split the cost of your order into four equal payments, with the first one due at the time of purchase. Subsequent payments are due bi-weekly thereafter.
For example, let’s say you’re making a $200 purchase. You would have to pay $50 when you complete your order, and pay another $50 every two weeks after that, until the balance is paid off. There’s also the option to make a payment manually at any time.

In order to use Afterpay, you need to be over 18. It’s free to create an Afterpay account, and there’s no credit check. You’re also required to link a debit or credit card, so your payments are automatic.
To start off with, Afterpay will give you a limit, usually under $500. With timely payments, your limit will likely increase.
In the United States, Afterpay works with over 3,300 partner retailers, including Anthropologie, ColourPop, Forever21, Free People, Kylie Cosmetics, NARS, Rebecca Minkoff, Revolve, Steve Madden, Sunglass Hut, True Religion and Urban Outfitters.
Afterpay Fees
As a consumer, there are no interest charges or fees to use Afterpay if you pay on time. If you don’t have enough money in your bank account when a payment is due, your Afterpay account will lock until you’re able to make the payment. You will be charged a late fee, up to a maximum of $8, if your payment is late by 11pm EST the following day. There’s another late fee charge if you fail to make your payment within seven days. Late fees are capped at $8 or 25% of the purchase value, whichever is less.
In comparison, credit cards typically charge about 20% interest if you fail to make your payments on time.
