Is The Sims 4 Lovestruck worth it?

Deciding whether a pack is worth adding to your collection in The Sims 4 is a tough task. Some packs are very specific, which makes them easy to evaluate without purchasing. But it’s tricky to decide whether a pack like Lovestruck is worth it without knowing everything it includes.

Most of the features and content in Lovestruck are more subtle, which means it can be tough to determine how much additional content this pack truly offers. It’s a big decision to make, so here’s everything you need to know to decide whether The Sims 4 Lovestruck is worth buying.

From a gameplay-focused standpoint, The Sims 4 Lovestruck is an absolute must-have pack that’s certainly worth buying. But if you’re only interested in the Create a Sim or Build and Buy Mode assets, you can easily skip this expansion pack. As someone who primarily focuses on gameplay, I find this pack to be a true game-changer and absolute necessity, but it’s definitely not the kind of pack every Sims player wants or needs.

I usually judge each expansion pack based on three key criteria to determine whether it’s worth buying:

  • Gameplay – This is by far the most compelling part of this expansion pack. The gameplay completely overhauls how romance and dating work in The Sims 4 by providing a lot more depth. Some of the key gameplay features are Cupid’s Corner, Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs, and blind dates.
  • Create a Sim – There are some really nice Create a Sim assets in this pack, but it’s certainly not one of the best packs to get if you’re solely focused on Create a Sim assets. A lot of the clothing is goofy costumes for the special costume trunk items, which is fun but not super useful for dressing up most Sims.
  • Build and Buy Mode – The standout items in the Build and Buy Mode categories are the many new wallpapers, the bed canopies, the customizable tile backsplash, and the iconic heart bed from past Sims games. Everything beyond these items is nice but not very needed or versatile. This isn’t a pack worth getting if you’re seeking super flexible items that fit into most builds.

Overall, you can think of Lovestruck as a pack that’s pretty similar to Growing Together. The gameplay systems in both aren’t as obvious and flashy as they are in packs like Horse Ranch or Cottage Living, but they do work powerfully in the background to completely change just about everything in smaller ways.

How much does The Sims 4 Lovestruck cost?

The Sims 4 Lovestruck costs $39.99. It’s an expansion pack, which means it’s the biggest type of DLC with the most content you can get in any pack you can buy for The Sims 4. But it’s also the most costly.

Should you buy The Sims 4 Lovestruck?

Overall, if you’re looking for more depth in the romance system in The Sims 4, Lovestruck is certainly worth buying. But if you’re only interested in CAS and Build and Buy Mode items, I’d recommend you skip Lovestruck and get a different pack instead, one like Cats & Dogs, Cottage Living, or Seasons that has better items for these specific categories.
