MW3’s latest midseason update brings new weapons, maps, and a Zombies mission this week

Season five of Modern Warfare 3 is only halfway over, which means a midseason “Reloaded” update is coming with some new content soon.

While next week will largely focus on Call of Duty Next on Wednesday, Aug. 28, and the Black Ops 6 early access beta beginning on Friday, Aug. 30, MW3 and Warzone will get a few new things this week for players to do in the meantime.

Anyone who plays the BO6 beta next weekend, though, will also gain XP and progress for MW3’s current battle pass, so there’s even more incentive to play the new title.

The main attraction for many in the Reloaded update coming on Aug. 21 will be the final story mission in MW3’s Zombies component. MWZ began strongly last year but development focused elsewhere for most of 2024, especially as Treyarch shifted to BO6. But the ending is here.

“Descend into the Dark Aether one last time alongside Dr. Jansen and Ravenov,” Activision said. “Sever the connection between Ava and the Entity to stop the Dark Aether from seeping into the Exclusion Zone. Traverse the new area using Aetherium launch pads while fighting off enemies and initiating the final boss battle.”

Two new weapons will also join the fray, including the Spear melee weapon and Torque 35 compound bow, and a recolored, cel-shaded version of Shoot House called Ink House. The second half of the season will also include new limited-time events and bundles, like a collaboration with The Crow, a person with a cat head, and many other odd inclusions.

Warzone, meanwhile, will also get a couple of new modes, contracts, and other minor additions when MW3’s Season Five Reloaded update goes live on Wednesday, Aug. 21, with a hefty download size to prepare for the franchise’s future, starting with BO6.
