How to find Aila Bren in Star Wars Outlaws

Experts are indispensable in Star Wars Outlaws, and Aila Bren, in particular, has some skills that will make your life a whole easier while trying to slice into terminals and other devices. But first, you have to find her.

Of course, being an excellent slicer in the galaxy usually means you’re making some powerful enemies since your whole skill is hacking into other people’s terminals. That’s exactly the situation Aila Bren finds herself in when trying to reach her in The Slicer quest in Star Wars Outlaws.

How to find The Slicer in Makal’s and the Crimson Dawn district

To start The Slicer quest, advance the main questline past the New Tricks quest. This quest ends with you speaking with Danka in Daruda Diner, who tells you she has a couple of leads on some people who can help you: A slicer and a mechanic.

The info Danka has on The Slicer points you toward Makal’s, which you’re already familiar with at this point. Once you reach the gambling parlor, the game doesn’t tell you much about how to find that info. Your journal just tells you, “Some of the criminals hanging around Makal’s are looking to hire the best slicer on Toshara.” Go to the left side of the bar, where you’ll spot a prompt to listen in on a conversation.

You’ll overhear two people talking about Aila Bren, the Slicer who can give your slicing kit an upgrade. She’s not here, but they say Aila has a contact in the Crimson Dawn district.

If you haven’t been to the Crimson Dawn district in Mirogana yet, it’s north of Makal’s, through Mirogana Market and the Market District. It’s much easier to get to the landing pad in the Crimson Dawn district if you have a good reputation or higher with the Crimson Dawn, as they let you right in, and you can walk up to the restricted area at the landing pad. Otherwise, you have to sneak your way in. If you need to resort to finding your own way in, there’s a vent you can find to the left of the restaurant entrance to the district.

The landing pad where Aila’s contact is posted is a restricted area, which means you’ll probably get in trouble with the guards for just walking in there, regardless of having a good reputation with the Crimson Dawn.

Luckily, there’s an easy way to sneak around those two guards: Go to the right of the ramp and hop up a couple of steps to the landing pad. Aila’s contact is in the middle of the landing pad. There shouldn’t be any guards to see you sneak your way over to him.

The contact actually gets in touch with Bren for you, who wants you to bring her an Imperial code sequencer. Luckily, she gives you coordinates; it’s in the Southern Falls region of Toshara, just to the east of The Grazing Fields.

How to get the Imperial code sequencer for Aila Bren

The code sequencer is in a little fortified Imperial Terminal with some Storm Troopers and other Imperials around. If you don’t care about gaining a Wanted status, you can just go in blasting; there are only a few enemies here to worry about and the engineer simply drops the sequencer once you’ve defeated them.

If you want to try to take them all out sneakily, use Nix to distract some guards and blow up some containers to separate the Stormtroopers and get them to come closer to some of the tall grass nearby. Here, you can pick them off one at a time.

How to find Aila Bren in the Imperial Forward Base

It turns out, Aila’s in more than just a pickle. She’s pinned down inside an Imperial base, and she needs that code sequencer to get out.

You get a marker on your map for the base, which isn’t too far away from the Terminal where you get the sequencer. The base is far, far more fortified than the Terminal. There are tons of Stormtroopers, as well as turrets and other nasty defenses to deal with. You can walk in the front door and start blasting, but it’s much easier to just sneak in.

To do this, go up the path to the large orange rock formation to the east of the base, where you’ll find a path to follow and a wall to climb up. When you get up there, you can find a tree to use your grappling hook on and swing over to a cave, which has a convenient vent leading inside the base.

Fighting when you’re already inside the base is a little more manageable than just trying to get in through the front entrance, but it can still get you in trouble. If you want a sneakier option, look for a yellow grate to climb up across the open portion of the base.

There are two Imperials standing in that open part that could spot you, but I found it pretty simple to send Nix out as a distraction while I sprinted across the open ground.

Up on the second level, you can take out a Stormtrooper stealthily to your left and then focus your attention on the two troopers trying to get into a door—the same door you need to get into. For this part, I snuck up behind them and attacked one with Nix while I punched the other out, then finished the one Nix was attacking.

After that, you just need to pick the locked door with your Data Spike, and you can finally find Aila. She needs you to get to the roof to attach a device to an antenna. There are several routes you can take up here that involve fighting Stormtroopers, but you can also walk up the stairs behind Aila’s building to the outer wall, then jump across to a ledge with yellow marks without anyone seeing you.

When you’ve attached the device to the antenna, Bren activates the turrets against the Imperials, and all hell breaks loose. Go to the tower marked on your map to disable the anti-air defenses. Slice the terminal to disable those defenses, allowing Bren to escape and then get out of there.

Head back to Makal’s, where one of Aila’s contacts is waiting for you in a back room. Talk to him, and you complete The Slicer job, unlocking the Slicing Kit that allows you to slice “advanced, terminal-less devices” and use some slicing subroutines to make your life easier while slicing. You also get to see the blue lines connecting glyph groups. Only one glyph per group is used in the code to slice a device, so you can more easily eliminate glyphs from the possible solution.

As for Aila, she tells you she’s going to Renpalli space station and to meet her there if you want to catch up.
