Almost acting as the origin story to Dead by Daylight, The Casting of Frank Stone is filled with dark endings, for not everyone is fortunate enough to be safe from Stone’s grasp.
Being able to fight another day is better than being sacrificed to the Entity, so here’s how to save everyone in The Casting of Frank Stone.
The Casting of Frank Stone: Save everyone guide
Unlike Until Dawn, The Casting of Frank Stone doesn’t throw many quick-time events at you. In fact, it’s impossible to get characters killed until chapter five (and Jaime’s the only one at risk at this stage).
If you want to save every playable character in The Casting of Frank Stone, you’ll need to select the correct timed choices and beat every quick-time event (QTE).
Here are all vital moments you need to remember so you can save all five playable characters in The Casting of Frank Stone.
The Casting of Frank Stone: Important choices and quick-time events
Surprisingly, there aren’t many moments where playable characters can die. Important moments are either displayed with a choice between two options, or by completing QTEs. These QTEs aren’t a simple press of a button/key when it appears. Instead, you need to wait until the right moment to react. Thankfully, the key for these events remains the same throughout.
There are interesting paths you can take, such as keeping Chris in 2024 after traveling through the portal. But, these are separate from the Entity Displeased ending. It’s far easier keeping the ’80s cast alive than the present day characters as the camera is simpler to control than surviving every QTE.
Chapter | Character(s) | Timeline | Event | Solution |
---|---|---|---|---|
Five: The Phantom of Cedar Steel | Jaime | 1980 | A portal opens and Chris is being pulled in. Frank Stone appears in a holographic state, standing between Chris and Jaime. | Either break up with Chris and flee, or stay with Chris and confront Frank Stone. You must have the firecrackers on you if you choose to confront. |
13. Murder Mill | Chris | 1980 | Frank Stone emerges and kills Bonnie. He attempts to kill Chris first, but Linda has an opportunity to save her. | As Linda, use the camera to save Chris from Frank Stone. |
13. Murder Mill | Sam | 1980 | Sam is traveling through the drain pipes. Stone will attack multiple times. | Use the camera to keep Stone at bay inside the sewers. As Sam, weaken Stone in the final stand using the camera. |
13. Murder Mill | Sam and Linda | 1980 | Linda and Jaime were captured by Stone and are badly injured. Sam goes into the Mill to save them. | As Sam, use the camera to save Linda from Frank Stone. There are no QTEs here. |
14: The Massacre at Gerant Manor | Sam and Linda | 2024 | Stan is grabbed through the projector by Frank Stone. A QTE appears to save him. | Don’t complete the QTE. This will sacrifice Stan at the projector instead, saving Sam and Linda in the process. |
14: The Massacre at Gerant Manor | Linda | 2024 | Escape the manor and flee Frank Stone safely. | Help Madi (don’t run to the elevator). |
14: The Massacre at Gerant Manor | Madi | 2024 | Escape the manor and flee Frank Stone safely. | Don’t accept Augustine’s offer. Survive the QTEs. Don’t help Sam and instead continue to flee from Frank Stone. |
14: The Massacre at Gerant Manor | Sam | 2024 | Escape the manor and flee Frank Stone safely. | Complete the QTEs to survive. |
The key moment where most characters can die is at The Massacre at Gerant Manor. Outside this, you need to use the camera whenever it’s available to keep Frank Stone at bay as Linda and Sam. Hit the wind button as often as possible while fighting off Stone. That way you don’t need to reload the film and risk getting killed.
How to get Entity Displeased achievement
What’s imperative to this ending is to make sure neither Sam or Linda are eaten by Frank Stone. This can only be achieved by sacrificing Stan. This means when the event pops up on the screen to save Stan from Stone’s grasp, you must fail it on purpose. Stan will be eaten (which seems to be canon), after which you need to complete every QTE with Linda, Madi, and Sam as they escape from the manor. It isn’t important for either Linda or Sam to have the gun, nor does Madi need to have the pendant on her to survive.
While I saved everyone in my playthrough, the Cutting Room Floor showed one of the best endings in The Casting of Frank Stone is for Sam, Linda, and Madi to find the campfire. None of the playable characters from 1980 appear here, making their death or survival somewhat irrelevant. Still, you need to save everyone except for Bonnie and Stan to get the Entity Displeased achievement.
This good ending isn’t particularly good when you think about it, but when it comes to the others, it’s really the best you’re going to get. Reality as we know it is gone, and the Entity has full control. Once Sam, Linda, and Madi arrive at the classic DBD campfire, the trials are set to begin indefinitely. So while Sam, Linda, and Madi didn’t die, they are condemned to the continuous fight for survival against Frank Stone.
