‘We’re just getting started’ – Bungie to address Destiny 2’s future on franchise’s 10th anniversary

With Destiny 2’s present and future currently up in the air, Bungie will be releasing a blog post next week to talk about what’s to come for the long-running franchise.

Speaking of long-running, the blog will be released to coincide with the series’ 10th anniversary. The original Destiny launched on PS4 and Xbox One back on Sept. 9, 2014, so Bungie will celebrate the past by revealing a bit of the future in “a short Dev Insight blog article discussing our goals for the future of Destiny.”

Penned by game director Tyson Green and narrative director Alison Luhrs, the blog will talk about Destiny 2’s Codename: Frontiers and “where have we been, where are we now, and where do we want to go” and “most importantly…how are we going to get there?”

“We want to be clear about our commitment to ongoing communication with you,” Bungie said in today’s This Week in Destiny blog. “This marks the beginning of regular updates from our development team about what’s next for Destiny 2, including details about its systems and future plans. While the updates may be a bit rough around the edges as they are early in the development process, we’re excited about sharing our goals and progress with you.”

In the future, Bungie says it will “provide bite-sized, direct to the point articles over the next few months rather than mega-blogs where it’s too easy to get mired in the details,” and there are “quite a few topics on our communications roadmap to tackle, so this will be the start of a conversation.”

With so much uncertainty surrounding Destiny, and Bungie itself amid another recent round of layoffs, this news will be welcome for fans of the franchise who are itching for a big reason to go back.

“We’ve said a few times that we’re just getting started, and… it’s still very much true,” Bungie said. “The Light and Dark saga may have ended, but the future of Destiny is still unfolding before us. This universe is big, bright, and full of wonder. We’re looking forward to exploring it and hope to see you join us starside as we approach new frontiers.”
