‘Wildly strong’ Endless Elixirs rune leaks on LoL PBE early

Riot Games has quickly backtracked on an update on the League of Legends PBE testing realm after uploading an “experimental” new rune players weren’t actually supposed to see until Season 15’s preseason—that is, if it ever makes it out of the lab.

The effect of the leaked rune, which has only appeared in some League players’ PBE matches, reads: “Elixir of Iron, Elixir of Sorcery, and Elixir of Wrath no longer expire after five minutes and can be stacked together at the same time.” It’s on Inspiration’s second slot line and, as far as we can tell, completely replaces Time Warp Tonic—even going as far as using the same emblem of a blue potion half-filled with a magical purple liquid.

Riot was quick to explain the strange appearance (and it’s almost as quick removal), with Chris Roberts, the Lead Producer of the Summoner’s Rift Team, admitting the now-leaked Endless Elixirs rune is something the devs are “noodling on for next year.”

“Whoops, enjoy the spoilers,” the Rioter wrote on Reddit soon after the accidental PBE update, adding this rune—and anything else that may have popped up beside it—wasn’t aimed for the Split Three patch, 14.19, but will instead be coming sometime late in 2024 or even early in 2025, if the League devs can find a way to balance the rune pick. “[It’s] experimental content and may or may not ship in anything resembling the current form.”

With the cat out of the bag, Roberts added it had been “pretty wild” in testing so far with some alpha test players simply slamming Elixirs constantly one they unlocked at level nine.

League players agreed with Riot’s assessment, with some judging it “a bit too broken” to be added to the live version of the game just yet and others claiming it sounded more like a major rune because of how “overpowered” it seemed to be.

For now, it’s tricky to say just how strong or weak the rune will actually be considering barely anyone has been able to test it and even less having access now Riot’s removed it from the League PBE again. Early vibes suggest it could be strong but not necessarily must-take on the Inspiration line unless you’re playing a lategame character with scaling plans.

Either way, we’ll get a closer look (and a far better chance to test) the rune once it actually arrives next League preseason. That Season 15 lead-in should start in December.
