Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG players are starting to learn more about what they can expect from the first core booster set of 2025. After Rage of the Abyss drops in October, Supreme Darkness is the next set coming in January 2025. Here’s what we know about Supreme Darkness so far.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Supreme Darkness release date and rarity details
Supreme Darkness is scheduled to release for the TCG in North America on Jan. 24, 2025. The set will be released for the OCG in Asia on Oct. 26. Since the OCG release date of this booster set is quickly approaching, Yu-Gi-Oh! players have started to learn small details about what they can expect to find when they’re opening packs of Supreme Darkness.
Supreme Darkness will feature 101 cards, including 50 Commons, 26 Super Rares, 14 Ultra Rares, 10 Secret Rares, and one “special card” that’s only available as a Quarter Century Secret Rare (QCR), according to Konami. In fact, Konami confirmed that 25 cards in Supreme Darkness will be available as QCRs, including the one “special card” that can only be found in the highly coveted rarity. There are nine cards per pack of Supreme Darkness and the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is $4.49 per pack.
What archetypes are featured in Yu-Gi-Oh! Supreme Darkness?
As the name of the booster set seemingly hints at, Supreme Darkness will feature new cards from the Evil HERO archetype, which was popularized by the Supreme King version of Jaden in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. The pack’s artwork depicts a creature in armor that’s very reminiscent of what the Supreme King wore in the show, too.
“Supreme King Jaden’s ‘Evil HERO’ monsters are back in a big way,” Konami said in its announcement. “Evil versions of Elemental HEROes Bubbleman and Prisma are coming, and the Supreme King’s new version of Neos, which has the power to take over your opponent’s monsters. There are plenty of ‘Evil HERO’ Fusion Monsters to choose from, and this set adds even more, plus new support cards to make it easier than ever.”
One of the other main attractions of Supreme Darkness is further support for the Speedroid archetype used by Yugo in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime. Konami confirmed the addition of “two new Pendulum/Tuner Speedroid monsters” and “a couple of new Synchro Monsters styled after Yugo’s favorites, including the biggest ‘Clear Wing’ Synchro Dragon yet.”
The Crystron archetype is also getting some new support cards in Supreme Darkness. The set is expected to add a new Crystron Synchro Monster as well as a level two Tuner with the ability to Special Summon a Cryston monster and then Synchro Summon after your opponent activates an effect. For many Yu-Gi-Oh! players, though, this might just serve as a reminder of some bad memories from when they had to deal with Crystron Halqifibrax before it was banned.
Finally, we know that Supreme Darkness will introduce a new archetype that’s yet to receive an official name in the TCG. It’s seemingly being called ARG☆S, or Argostars in the OCG. This new archetype consists of “Continuous Trap Monsters” that “can spring to life as Warrior monsters themselves, then bounce back to the safety of the Spell and Trap Zone when things get too hectic, ready to pop out again when the time is right,” according to Konami. On a very basic level, this sounds at least somewhat comparable to the Centur-Ion strategy.
