How to romance Cassia

Cassia Orsellio is one of several Companions that can be romanced in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. She is a gifted Navigator and the esteemed heiress of House Orsellio with objectively one of the most engaging romance arcs in an RPG.

In Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Cassia can be recruited to your crew in Chapter One upon successful completion of the Secrets of the Navis Nobilite quest, which is an extension of the Looking for Trouble quest. Cassia can be persuaded—using any method—to join your Voidship, making her the first Companion to do so. But if you find yourself so inclined, you can also pursue Cassia romantically.

In order to romance Cassia, you need to be a male Rogue Trader. Not every Companion has a gender preference, but Cassia does. It will not be possible to romance her as a female Rogue Trader.

After completing the aforementioned quest and playing out the scene in which you discuss a ritual with Cassia, you’ll be able to swoop in for the kill—figuratively speaking. Once on the Voidship deck, go and find Cassia; she can be located on the south side of the map.

When you initiate a conversation with Cassia, be sure to choose the following dialogue options:

  • “Tell me about yourself.”
  • “Sorry, Cassia, but I would like to know more about you personally, not your family.”
  • “Your third eye — do you always conceal it?”
  • “You are beautiful, Cassia. Do not let anyone or anything convince you otherwise.”
  • “I would not date to make fun of a lady’s feelings, especially not one who has captivated me since I first set eyes on her.”

Choose the “Why don’t we talk about something else?” dialogue prompt and you will be sent back to the original list of options. There, you can select “Let’s talk about us, shall we?”

And that’s it, Cassia is yours. You can now consider yourself to be romantically involved with her.

Why Cassia’s romance is so endearing

It might surprise Warhammer 40,000 players to learn that Cassia’s romance narrative is surprisingly lighthearted, especially for an RPG. It certainly took me by surprise to see how tender-hearted the courtship turned out to be. For a Rogue Trader Companion like Kibellah, there’s certainly more of a suggestive undertone to the interactions. After all, your pursuit of Kibellah ends with them going “somewhere private”—and we all know what that means.

But Cassia’s romance isn’t quite so forward. In fact, Cassia acts like a schoolgirl with a crush, which is more endearing than many of the other Companions, who are a little too rough and ready to be as effortlessly innocent as her.

Some of the writing for this branching narrative is completely awe-inspiring, especially in describing Cassia’s reactions. There’s something compelling about how nervous she gets around you, which only serves to make her more desirable, and the vocabulary used to convey her emotions is perfectly suited to Cassia. It’s clear that the Warhammer 40,000 writers had a field day piecing together what kind of personality she would have. No wonder Cassia is arguably one of the more engaging Companions to romance and certainly a fan favorite to the community, who fondly refer to her as “Cass.”
