How to turn on the Helmet Flashlight

Modifying the look of a helmet isn’t a priority in most shooters, but that’s the attention to detail that sets Escape from Tarkov apart from its counterparts. You can’t modify them all, but the more high-tech ones let you attach additional parts to them, like the Helmet Flashlight.

Helmets in Escape from Tarkov can be customized with additional plating for increased protection, a set of headphones for effective communication and noise cancellation, and even face shields. But one of their most useful features happens to be the flashlight, which can make navigating dark areas seem effortless.

With Patch 13.5, Battlestate Games made flashlights a fully realized component, even though helmet-mounted flashlights were fully functional (sort of) in Escape from Tarkov for a long time already. Other FPS games tend to attach flashlights to the guns themselves, but then the beam points directly at the ground, not the center of the screen, which is where you would want it. But Escape from Tarkov now has flashlight attachments for helmets that not only look good but also work well. Here’s a quick rundown of how to work the flashlight modification on your helmet in Escape from Tarkov.

How to work the flashlight helmet attachment in Escape from Tarkov

To toggle the flashlight attachment on your helmet, you simply click the ‘H’ key on your keyboard. It’s really that simple.

For players who prefer the ease of traversing the darkness, the flashlight attachment was a saving grace for the Tarkov community, as not every gun allows for modifications to such an extreme. Before Battlestate Games perfected the helmet flashlight, you often found yourself navigating dark parts of a map by turning up your brightness and hoping for the best.

Although every flashlight serves the same purpose, some are more efficient than others, especially when covering a large area and illuminating the player’s peripheral vision as well as their direct line of sight. Typically, the larger flashlights in Escape from Tarkov tend to be the better choices.

The XHP35 flashlight is arguably the best choice for having a beam of light that’s right in the middle of the screen as opposed to aimed at the ground, as other flashlights tend to be. It’s a fairly wide beam, it illuminates well, and it’s positioned where you would want it to be—somewhere practical.

Another solid choice is the Zenit Klesch-2U flashlight because it has the largest beam of light compared to most other tactical light sources. It’s also pretty central, just like the XHP35 and so if you’re steering clear from the flashlights that point downwards (unhelpfully) then you’ll want to choose either of these substitutes.
