Game designer Mark Rosewater has released the Duskmourn House of Horrors teasers, creating hype for Magic: The Gatheing spoilers that start on Aug. 30.
The final MTG set release for 2024 is quickly approaching and the Rosewater teasers have fans excited. The first official Duskmourn House of Horrors spoilers from PAX West start on Aug. 30, followed by 13 days of previews before Prerelease events begin on Sept. 20.
Best Duskmourn House of Horror teasers to be excited about
With every new MTG set, Rosewater releases a list of teasers through categories like things to expect, rules, text, and creature types. The Duskmourn teaser list has several items from card names to expected gameplay that have fans buzzing about the horror set.
- Creature tokens: The Duskmourn set will have 13 types of creature tokens that range from a 1/1 Red Balloon and White Insect to a 0/0 Green and Blue Fractal.
- Text that reads “Exile any number of target instant, sorcery, and/or Tamiyo planeswalker cards from your graveyard:” The text reads like an ult on a Planeswalker but with Tamiyo included in the text it remains a mystery.
- A 10/1 Blue creature: This sounds more like a fun card, but you never know with WotC.
- Meathook Massacre II: This is not a typo, WotC is printing a second version of a board wipe that was banned.
- A modal three-drop removal spell in White: Aggro decks have thrived in the Bloomburrow Standard meta, but it seems like Control builds are about to have a new tool at their disposal.
- Creature with Eye creature type: This sounds cool and I hope the flavor carries over into the card itself.
- Searching your library for a Demon card: This sounds like it’s for Limited and I’m all about playing Demon synergies.
- Goat creature type: We need more Goats.
- Text that reads “You have no maximum hand size and don’t lose the game for having zero or less life:” As an Aggro and Midrange player, I’m not happy about this, but many are. Don’t sleep on the details of “zero or less life.”
Initial Duskmourn spoilers dropped during MagicCon Amsterdam, featuring cards like The Wandering Rescuer and Chainsaw. Most of the previews were toned down, though, with WotC trying not to reveal too much. The Bloomburrow set has seen plenty of success, from a healthy Limited and Constructed meta to sales. Both MTG sets lean heavily into themes and it should be interesting to see if the Duskmourn House of Horrors set can live up to the hype.
