There are multiple side quests for you to work through as you play through the main story of Monster Hunter Wilds. Many of them are niche quests where you’ll work on specific aspects outside of hunting large monsters, such as the several fishing quests you get from Kanya.
You can unlock these quests as you work your way through the main campaign. You’ll need to return to Kanya each time you want a new one, which requires you to finish the previous one. These do steadily become more difficult, requiring more patience with the different fish Kanya wants you to catch, but it unlocks different lures for you to use. We’ll be breaking down all the fishing quests you can get in Monster Hunter Wilds and how you complete them.
Every fishing quest in Monster Hunter Wilds

These are the five fishing quests you have to complete in Monster Hunter Wilds.
- Fishing: Life, in Microcosm
- Seeking the Goldenfish
- Fishing for Flavor
- The Catch of a Lifetime!
- Razzle Dazzle
You can find Kanya in the Scarlet Forest base camp. She’s in the back next to the water. When you speak with her, she’ll offer to teach you about fishing, but you have to show your prowess to her by completing increasingly difficult fishing tasks. Each time you complete one of these quests, she rewards you with a new lure, giving you access to fish you can now catch with it.
How to complete Fishing: Life, in Microcosm in Monster Hunter Wilds
This is the first quest Kanya gives you to start you off on your fishing expedition. Thankfully, it’s relatively easy to complete, and you can do it without leaving base camp. She wants you to catch a fish, and it can be any fish you find.
You do need to do it using your fishing rod, though. I tried doing this using my Capture Net with my grappling hook, but that never counted.
You’ll have to use your fishing rod from your inventory, toss it into the water, and wait for a fish to bite. You can wiggle the lure on your fishing rod to increase the chances of getting a fish’s attention. When it bites the lure, reel it in, and you can present what you caught to Kanya. If you don’t want to catch the fish at the Scarlet Forest base camp, there are several fishing spots throughout this region where you can catch any fish.
How to complete Seeking the Goldenfish in Monster Hunter Wilds

The second quest Kanya gives you will test your skills as a fisher in Monster Hunter Wilds. You’ll have to pay attention to the hints she tells you, as she wants you to attempt to find a Goldenfish. This particular fish only appears in caves, as it’s shy and doesn’t like to be out in the daylight.
You won’t have to leave the Scarlet Forest to find it. It appears inside the mineral cave in region eight, behind the waterfall. It’s also a location where you can place down a pop-up camp, which is fantastic to put as a fast travel point whenever you want to jump to this section of the region. In addition to finding the Goldenfish in the back of the cave, you have to equip the Golden Bughead lure. It’s the only lure the Goldenfish likes to try biting. When you catch it, return to base camp to present to Kanya, and you’ll unlock the chance for the next task.
How to complete Fishing for Flavor in Monster Hunter Wilds

The next quest is even more complicated, as you’ll be learning about how there are specific fish that not only appear in certain areas of Monster Hunter Wilds, but only come out during set times of the day. You’ll be able to work on this quest after you complete the main story of the game, and you can change the environment and the time of day.
For this quest, Fishing for Flavor, you need to track down a Gravid Bowfin. These fish only show up during the season of Plenty and during the early morning or at dusk, before nighttime.
You’ll want to make it the season of Plenty, and then make sure it’s in the morning or evening. From here, to help narrow down your search, make your way to region 11, and there should be a large pool of water in the darkened area of the mini-map. This location frequently has a fish frenzy, where several fish jump out of the water. Toss your lure at this location using the Emerald Jitterbait, and wait to catch it.
This quest took me several attempts to complete, as I had to return to this spot at least two times before I caught a Gravid Bowfin. I was catching multiple Sushifish well before a single Gravid Bowfin showed up, which makes sense because it is a rare fish. When you catch at least one, return to Kanya, and you can start working on the next one.
How to complete The Catch of a Lifetime! in Monster Hunter Wilds

For The Catch of a Lifetime!, Kanya wants you to test your mettle against one of the tougher fish in Monster Hunter Wilds: a whopper. This is not a species of fish, but rather, the size of it. It’s a larger fish that you have to tire out before you attempt to catch it, and you won’t find it in more traditional spots where you’ve been catching fish. You’ll also have to equip a particular lure to track it down.
An easy location to track down these large fish is to visit region 17, which you can find at the top of the map. This is another location where you can put down a pop-up camp, making it a great fast travel point. When you arrive, look for the larger fish swimming in the water that are typically hanging out alone. These are clearly larger fish due to their overall size, and they almost give off the effect of being in the background, but they are ones you can catch so long as you use the Tuff Joint Bait lure, such as the Speartuna.
Like the Gravid Bowfin, you’ll have to toss in your lure and jiggle it multiple times. These fish do not mess around, seldom biting down on your lure. It took me several attempts, waiting around 10 to 15 minutes before one of the larger fish took the bait. You then have to lead the fish around, moving your line in the same direction as the fish to tire it out before you can attempt to reel it in toward you at the shore. After you catch one, return to Kanya to receive the last fishing quest.
How to complete Razzle Dazzle in Monster Hunter Wilds

The final quest you get from Kanya is called Razzle Dazzle. As it’s the last quest, it’s the toughest one you need to complete in Monster Hunter Wilds. The fish you need to find for Razzle Dazzle is the Grand Escunite. It’s a rare fish that we’ve been able to track down a few times, namely by exploring region 12, adjacent to region eight. You can fast travel to the pop-up camp you put down here before heading over to region 12, and sneaking behind the waterfall of this area. Make sure you do it during the Plenty season while in the morning.
This fish has a glow-in-the-dark shell that makes it easy to spot if you know what to look for when you’re searching for it in the water. There’s a chance it might not have spawned in your game, and if it didn’t, you have to reload your game and return to this area to try again. You’ll then want to place the Tentacle Jigs bait on your lure and throw your line into the water.
Eventually, the Grand Escunite should take a liking to this lure, and you can reel it in to show off to Kanya. It’s the final and most frustrating fishing quest in Monster Hunter Wilds, but you can enjoy fishing to your heart’s content after it’s done.
