A new Magic: The Gathering Enchantment creature type dropped through Duskmourn: House of Horrors, featuring a cycle of Enduring Glimmers that remain on the battlefield after dying.
The Duskmourn: House of Horrors set in MTG is the final set of 2024 and the feature set at the Magic World Championship in Las Vegas from Oct. 25 to 27. It’s also an enchantment-themed set that features a new Multiverse Plane while tapping into pop culture horror themes.
Glimmers in the Duskmourn set are “benevolent manifestations,” according to WotC, that transform into “treasured childhood objects, fondly remembered pets, or even friends—whatever keeps a person from giving up.” A cycle of Glmmer Enduring creatures is included in the House of Horror set, along with some Enchantment Creatures and Glimmer payoff cards.
How Enduring Glimmers work in MTG Duskmourn
This new MTG Enchantment is cast as an Enchantment Creature, featuring a passive ability and average stats for its cost. When the creature dies (not exiled), it returns to the battlefield (not transformed) under its owner’s control. Enduring Glimmers is a powerhouse mechanic on Duskmourn cards that are slightly power-crept, depending on the format but is quickly becoming one of my favorite Enchantment types.
All MTG Duskmourn Enduring Glimmers ranked
At the time of writing, only four of the five Duskmourn Enduring Glimmers have been revealed during the thirteen-day spoiler season. I’ll update the article once the official preview of the Green Enduring Enchantment Creature is public. Enduring Glimmers are ranked from best to worst for Standard and Duskmourn Limited. All grades are ranked from A to F.
Enduring Tenacity
Orzhov Bats with Enduring Tenacity as the main four-drop is the first Standard deck I’m trying out at the Duskmourn Early Access event on Sept. 18. I’m not saying it’s going to break the Standard meta, but it is going to be a fun and fast Aggro build to play.
Lifegain in Duskmourn Draft and Sealed is limited, which means Enduring Tenacity is a four-drop 4/3 that may impact the board if you pick up Lifelink pieces. It’s a B-grade card that has A-level synergy.
Enduring Curiosity
Enduring Curiosity is a solid Tempo-based Blue four-drop. Needing to deal combat damage for the ability to trigger is a downside but it does draw for each creature that deals combat damage. The Cat Glimmer also has Flash, giving its creature side value. Use Enduring Curiosity as removal through Flash, or as a creature drop when holding up mana for spells you didn’t use that turn.
As a Duskmourn Limited card, Enduring Curiosity is an A, especially with WU and UB Draft archetypes that have Tempo and Control strategies built into them.
Enduring Courage
Designed to fuel Aggro decks that go wide and have access to Trample, Enduring Courage is slightly less impactful of an MTG card than the Blue and White Enduring Enchantments. I like that it gives all entering creatures Haste, and the power stat boost is a plus but not great unless combined with evasion. I’d say it’s definitely playable in Standard.
Enduring Courage has the potential to thrive within Duskmourn Limited and I’d even call it a potential bomb A+ within the RW Draft archetype.
Enduring Innocence
Enduring Innocence is an alternative option to Enduring Courage that isn’t Standard strong enough. Drawing cards is great for Aggro low-to-the-ground creature decks but the once per turn clause isn’t good enough for a three-drop slot.
Limited gameplay is different than Standard, and the Enduring Glimmer is good enough to pull you into the RW Draft archetype. I give it an A- for MTG Duskmourn Draft.
What are the Glimmer MTG payoff cards in Duskmourn?
Several MTG Duskmourn cards like Tunnel Surveyor and Grand Entryway create Glimmer tokens. But at the time of writing only two provide a payoff.
Inquisitive Glimmer itself is a payoff for Glimmer Creatures because the Fox Glimmer reduces their cost by one mana to cast. Glimmer Seeker is a three-drop Uncommon in White that uses the Survival mechanic. I think the mechanic has a home in Convoke builds but don’t predict it will impact Duskmourn Limited meta much.
There are MTG Duskmourn cards that gain value if an opponent has or doesn’t have Glimmers. Cynical Loner can’t be blocked by Glimmer creatures while Fear of the Dark gains Menace and Deathtouch if an opponent doesn’t control a Glimmer.
