All Vow of the Disciple glyphs, symbols, and callouts in Destiny 2

One of the key mechanics in the Vow of the Disciple raid in Destiny 2 is the symbols. They are in every encounter, and since communication is key, like in every raid, you and your fireteam must know these glyphs by heart.

The callouts from Vow of the Disciple also appear in other activities in the game. If you plan on doing Dual Destiny to get Exotic class items, you must also learn these symbols. When learning callouts, the most important thing is to ensure you and your teammates have the same ones. Otherwise, you might be in for a few confusing encounter attempts.

Here are all the symbols and glyphs in the Vow of the Disiple raid in Destiny 2, as well as different ways you can call them out.

There are a total of 27 symbols in the raid, each with its own official callout. You’ll likely develop your own callouts over time, but there’s an official name for each glyph to serve as a baseline. You can check these symbols in the room leading to the Acquisition encounter (Obelisks). There are pillars showing each symbol, and coming close to the pillar shows the glyph’s name in the top left corner.

Below is a cheat sheet by community artist AscendantRaisin and a table featuring all the symbols and their potential callouts.

You don’t have to strictly follow the formula for these callouts as long as you and your teammates are on the same page. “Flower,” for instance, makes as much sense for “Love” as “Brain” does for “Knowledge” or “Red Square” does for “Stop.”

For Vow of the Disciple, you want everyone on the team to know the symbols or have a cheat sheet nearby, at the very least. In some encounters, you can get away with only a few people working with symbols, but it’s always best for everyone to know what is happening.

Here are the Vow of the Disciple raid encounters and how many people you need to read the symbols:

  • Acquisition: All six. Three players call out symbols at the Obelisks while the other three must head into the corresponding rooms and call out the symbol that drops from the Scorn miniboss.
  • Caretaker: Two. Two players must run into the rooms with glyphs and dunk them at the Obelisk. If you do the challenge, you technically don’t need to know the symbols’ names as long as you can remember how they look. This can be easier than doing the encounter the normal way.
  • Exhibition: Two to four. You need a player on each side to read the symbols (one side must have a relic), but due to how chaotic this encounter can get, it’s always best to have multiple people on each side who know the symbols.
  • Rhulk: Two. One player whose entire role during the prep phase is to call out the Obelisks where to dunk the buff, and one runner who can see the other set of symbols.

Knowing the official callouts matters more than just for the raid, however. The jumping puzzle between the Caretaker and the Exhibition encounters contains a wall with a series of gaps on it, with each gap representing a symbol. Symbols appear randomly, but the community has also compiled a list of their locations, allowing them to decode an ominous message:

“Hive, Scorn love Darkness, worship Witness. Pyramid Fleet enter Earth, stop Guardian. Witness commune Traveler, drink Light. Witness kill…” Looking back at the message, it foreshadowed the events of Lightfall and The Final Shape campaigns
