Yet another PlayStation exclusive has landed on PC, and it’s certainly not one to sneeze at. The absolutely massive God of War: Ragnarok isn’t just for PS5 players anymore. We all know what the PC audience is really here for, though: the mods.
PC modding is one of the biggest draws of the platform, and God of War: Ragnarok has not escaped its grasp by any stretch. If you’re picking up one of the PS5’s biggest games on PC, don’t forget to stop by Nexus and pick up a few of these mods to boost your graphics, performance, or just plain fun.
What mods should you use in God of War: Ragnarok?
Listed below in no particular order are the six best PC mods for God of War: Ragnarok, from its Nexus page and other sources. Keep in mind that much like the nascent Jörmungandr, Ragnarok modding is still in its infancy, so new mods are constantly emerging. It’s a great time to leap into the Nine Realms—and if that infamous PSN account requirement is turning you off, modders have of course found a way to mod that out too.
Ragnarok Natural Colors
The first order of business for any new PC release—well, after swapping out the main character with CJ, that is—is making it look prettier. Ragnarok Natural Colors does just that, using the tried-and-true ReShade framework to introduce subtle but meaningful color correction that eases up on the cartoonish saturation the base game is fraught with in its various realms. The overall effect is far more natural, and—dare I say it—realistic. At least, it’s as realistic as anything in this game full of talking squirrels and magic hammers can be, of course.
Anti-Stutter – High CPU and Disk Priority
The game might look slick, but now it has to run smoothly. This mod essentially does exactly what it says on the tin, manually bumping up the game’s priority to let it use more of your system’s resources. The game is facing plenty of performance issues thanks to not properly using your hardware, so if you’re running into stutters or black screens, this mod is essentially essential.
Classic Kratos Save File
If you couldn’t tear yourself away from God of War 3 back in the day, this is the mod for you. Normally, Kratos’ God of War 3 look is saved for the final reward at the end of the roguelike Valhalla DLC, but as that’s likely to be literally the last thing you do in the entire game, you’ll barely have any time to enjoy it. Not anymore. This tweaked save file will grant you the cosmetic right from the jump, beginning just after the first boss fight in the game—just in time to see classic Kratos throw down with Thor. Granted, early Kratos would have ripped his head off without a moment’s hesitation, so he’s still cooled down a little.
NoClip CE
What kind of god is restricted by a few puny trees? If you’ve ever wanted to see what’s out of bounds, examine faraway details, or you just want to make that whole “Ghost of Sparta” thing literal, NoClip has you covered. With the click of a button, you’ll be able to phase through any solid surface in the Nine Realms, letting you sequence break to your heart’s content. While this does absolutely shatter the plot if you think about it for more than five seconds, there’s nothing better for virtual photography—or finally getting a look at Tyr sleeping in Brok’s closet.
CJ
All you had to do was slay the damn gods, CJ. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas‘ Carl “CJ” Johnson is an icon not only in general gaming but also in the PC modding scene. Just about every PC game you can name has had its protagonist swapped out with CJ, from Armored Core to Yakuza 0 to even other GTA games—and now, it’s Kratos’ turn. This replacement is unfortunately a paid mod only for the time being, but others will inevitably be released over the game’s lifetime. If nothing else, seeing the decidedly mortal CJ tussle with Thor in snowy Midgard wearing nothing but a tank top and jeans is a spectacle in itself.
God of War Ragnarok Cheat Table
Rounding out our list is, perhaps, the cornerstone of PC modding: bold, shameless cheating. As long as it’s not in a multiplayer game, it’s probably OK, and that’s very much the ethos the Cheat Table brings to the… table. While there’s no noclip option—you’ll want to look above for that—this Cheat Table can grant you any resource in the game, boost your stats, grant XP, or even make you outright invincible if a Valhalla run is giving you trouble. While this does come with the possibility of breaking your immersion, you can also just explain it away as Kratos unlocking his true godly potential or something. He’s done wilder things.
Those are all the best mods out for Ragnarok at the moment, but keep an eye on the game’s Nexus page for more as they’re published. One thing is for sure, though: When that prophecy said Ragnarok would change the Nine Realms forever, it certainly wasn’t kidding. I doubt any of this will feature in the upcoming TV show.
