BioWare shares details on PC optimization features for Dragon Age The Veilguard

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the upcoming entry to the long-running RPG franchise from a studio traditionally tied to the PC platform. Bioware, true to form, today revealed all the features the studio plans to implement specifically on the PC version of its next title.

The developers shared all they have in store for those who play The Veilguard on the PC in a blog today, Aug. 21. They expressed how many of the developers working at Bioware are avid PC enjoyers, and stated that 40 percent of all testing done for The Veilguard was done on PC. In terms of PC-oriented features, Bioware named many, including native 21:9 support (even for cinematics), class-specific keybinds, optimized mouse and keyboard inputs, an uncapped framerate, HDR, all of the upscaling in the world, and a whole lot more.

The Veilguard is also set to have raytracing on the PC, as well as numerous settings to tweak the game’s lighting to your heart’s content. While adjusting all of these settings, you will also have a live image on the side showcasing how your changes are impacting the game itself, essentially streamlining the process of graphical optimization and removing the need to pause and unpause incessantly to look for what’s different.

In my opinion, the biggest draw here is the uncapped framerate. In the sea of new games, all we’ve seen are 60-FPS locked framerates as if we never progressed past 2011. Most studios do this sort of stuff due to engine limitations and physics simulation. The Veilguard being different gives hope that Bioware has made strides to upgrade PC optimization and bring it up to date with current tech. To see all the settings players will get to toy with, check out the full list of features here.

The Veilguard aims for an Oct. 31 release date this year.
