CoD leaks claim MW3 had fewer new maps because they were repurposed for Black Ops 6

A new discussion among Call of Duty players has a purported explanation as to why the number of new maps added in recent Modern Warfare 3 seasonal content drops has dwindled.

According to leakers like @TheGhostofHope, Activision has “taken” maps meant for MW3 seasonal drops and given them to Treyarch to repurpose as upcoming post-launch maps for Black Ops 6, which is set to come out on Oct. 25.

Season five of MW3 added two new maps, which is less than usual, but then season six was revealed yesterday with just one new map—and five new variants of Shipment, the classic map that players flock to when it’s time to rank up guns or just mindlessly shoot.

Previous seasonal updates came with three or four new maps, so the stark contrast of just one in season six has sparked the discussion of late. If the rumors of maps being repurposed for BO6 are true, then it’d be some sort of explanation as to why the map count drop-off was so noticeable.

Over the past few seasons, MW3 has attempted to compensate for the lack of new maps by adding variants of existing ones, which are basically either re-colors or different time-of-day settings for maps like Shipment, Kill House, Rust, and others.

The rumor came as a huge disappointment to fans of MW3 who have been looking forward to new maps over the past few months. While unconfirmed, it has to leave a sour taste in players’ mouths. But if true, it at least means that BO6 could be getting some banger maps in upcoming seasonal drops.

Several of the MW3 maps added after launch made by Sledgehammer Games have been well-received, so if that trend is to continue, many CoD gamers will likely be curious to see how they work in the world of BO6’s omnimovement.
