Destiny 2’s next Dungeon will feature this harder difficulty mode for the first time

Destiny 2’s new Episode, Revenant, is just weeks away. And so, too, is the game’s newest Dungeon, a three-person endgame activity that will ratchet up the difficulty more than usual.

In today’s This Week in Destiny blog post, Bungie confirmed the new episode will begin in a few weeks on Oct. 8, and the newest Dungeon will kick off a few days later on Oct. 11. No other details about the Dungeon were revealed, other than the fact that it will feature Contest Mode for the first time.

Usually reserved for the first few days of a Destiny raid’s release, Contest Mode ramps up the difficulty by capping off the Power level advantages much lower than normal, meaning everyone is on the same footing regardless of what Power they are.

Episode Two: Revenant is themed around the Scorn enemies, led by their leader, Fikrul, The Fanatic. And that’s about all anyone knows thus far as Bungie seems keen on keeping a lid on what to expect in the new content drop, at least for a little while longer.

With Episode One: Echoes, however, we may have gotten a taste of what the model will look like: new activities, new currencies and items to grab, new and reprised weapons to collect, and maybe an Exotic mission with the Dungeon to boot.

Earlier in the week, Bungie announced what to expect from the franchise’s future in Codename: Frontiers and beyond. The developer will switch from the yearly expansion model to instead offer two, smaller expansions every six months, with seasonal drops in between.

Expansions will offer story missions, locations, raids, and dungeons, while seasons will bring activities, gear, new sandbox changes, challenges, and more. A Rewards Pass will be optional and include additional rewards like Exotic weapons and ornaments.
