Fan uproar after Diablo 4’s new season leaves game ‘unplayable’

Diablo 4 has been inundated with bugs since season five arrived, with the problems ranging from lags and glitches across Sanctuary to full crashes, controller issues, Tempering problems, and even rewards from bosses and chests dropping incorrectly.

For many Diablo 4 players, season five has become “unplayable.” The playerbase is up in arms over the errors, with this week’s reports including crashes on PlayStation 5, controllers bugging out and opening chat, Legion Event chests not spawning loot, and even the Infernal Hordes not rewarding chests at the end of the run.

The problems have become so extreme that players are now calling for Blizzard to delay seasons and patches entirely if they’re going to be this broken.

Even worse, the latest reports seem to be the tip of the iceburg as Sanctuary falls apart. One player accidentally slayed his own character, which shouldn’t be possible. Others have been locked into only getting rings and amulets for loot, and several key story quests have been completely scratched because they won’t load up.

It’s safe to say that season five has started with a bang, and not in a good way. That said, it’s not actually all bad news: An Umbracrux bug, which has now been disabled, was giving lucky Diablo 4 players extreme amounts of experience, while Season four Tempers were accidentally carried over from season four characters to season five ones—a boost that meant players could very quickly upgrade their loot with the resource.

One player even today noted an “awesome” bug that transformed his character into a being of darkness with the Wings of the Faith back cosmetic he received for pre-ordering the Ultimate edition for the Vessel of Hatred expansion.

Good or bad, Blizzard has yet to formally comment on any of these issues (outside saying the Temper carryover was “okay”). Adam Fletcher, Diablo’s community development director, has told fans there’s things in the works; The Umbracrux error seems to be the main thing they’re working on solving for the time being.

If you’ve been hit by any Diablo 4 bugs this season (very likely, it seems) then check Diablo 4’s Blizz Tracker or reach out to the support team for help.
