Frostpunk 2 – How to decrease Hunger

In the world of everlasting winter, there aren’t many sources of food left. To survive and overcome the challenges of the cold, you have to ensure people don’t starve to death, so here’s how to decrease Hunger in Frostpunk 2.

How to lower Hunger in Frostpunk 2

Hunger is one of the five main problems in Frostpunk 2. High Hunger increases Disease and Tension and lowers population growth. To decrease Hunger, you have to ensure there’s enough Food supply to meet the demand.

You can check the Food demand at the top of the screen. Ideally, you want to have a surplus of Food to start stockpiling for emergencies or have a colony/settlement that supplies Food.

Build Food Districts

The first way to get Food is by building Food Districts in your city. Every city has at least a few Food deposits you can use to survive the early game. If you’re lucky enough to have a deposit with Deep Fertile Soil (Food icon with the infinity sign), you can research and build a Deep Melting Drill or alternative buildings to access deep deposits with almost infinite resources.

Explore the Frostland

Once you deplete the local resources, you must explore the Frostland to find more. Create Frostland Teams and send them to explore nearby areas. You may find forgotten Food stashes, places for Food settlements, and even establish a Food colony. The last two can provide a high (sometimes almost infinite) amount of resources, allowing you to solve most of your Food problems.

Laws and ideas

Last but not least are laws and ideas. Both can increase the Food output in your city if you have one or two stable sources of Food. They can also help raise Trust with specific factions in your city.

Here are some of the law categories that boost Food production:

  • Food Additives in the Survival tab
  • Waste Heat Conversion in the Survival tab (Heat Overclocking)
  • Basic Necessities in the City tab (Paid Essentials)

Here are some of the ideas that boost Food production:

  • Melting Deep Deposits in the Heating tab
  • Hothouses in the Resources tab
  • Harvester Hangars in the Frostland tab

Laws and ideas can’t replace a Food District, but they can make it more efficient. I recommend building a Food District with the Deep Melting Drill if you have a deep deposit or look for a colony/settlement with high deposits. Then, you can pass laws and ideas to further improve them.
