‘Glorify’ NYT Mini Crossword Aug. 2 answer and hints

Today’s NYT Crossword puzzle clue, “Glorify,” takes praising to an all-new level. Unless you’re from the 15th century, the answer to this clue may be one you’ve never heard before.

“Glorify” is the clue from the Aug. 2 NYT mini crossword puzzle, and it’s not so easy to unravel unless you’ve got loads of adulating fans. Truthfully, I solved this only because the answer was used in an Ancient History documentary I’d just finished watching. Don’t worry, I won’t make you watch it for the answer—you’ll find it below.

I hope these hints help! Screenshot by Dot Esports via the NYT.
  • Hint 1: It starts with an “E.”
  • Hint 2: It rhymes with asphalt.
  • Hint 3: It’s a verb.
  • Hint 4: It means to raise in rank or power or elevate through praise.

If you still haven’t uncovered the answer with these clues, I’ve included the answer to two-down in the next paragraph.

The answer to the “Glorify” clue is “EXALT.” Exalt, as you now know, means to raise someone in rank, power, or character or to elevate them by praise. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it’s derived from the Latin word exaltare and was first used in the 15th century. So, it’s been around for quite some time.

With two-down solved, the Aug. 2 NYT mini crossword puzzle should now be easier to solve.

‘Glorify’ clue difficulty, ranked

This clue from today’s crossword is quite tricky because not only are there many possibilities, like praise, deify, ensky, or hails, but it’s such an old word just not used as frequently today. I’d give this clue four out of five in difficulty because if you’ve solved a few surrounding clues, the answer is still possible to solve, albeit challenging.

If I hadn’t heard exalt being used in the doco I watched on Ancient Egypt, I probably wouldn’t have chosen it as my first preference today. While it may not be a prevalent word, it’s still being used after 500 years, which is pretty cool.
