Frostpunk 2 offers players a great experience through its interesting world and gameplay elements. Unfortunately, some players can’t enjoy the experience just yet, as many have reported stuttering issues and other graphical problems.
If you are among those experiencing these issues in Frostpunk 2, here are some fixes you can try out.
Install the game on an SSD
One of the simplest ways to solve the stuttering issue before installation begins is to choose what drive to install the game on before downloading it on Steam. Installing it on an SSD instead of an HDD could help resolve the issue. This makes the game run smoother, as processing is faster, which helps prevent bugs such as this.
Check your graphics card and PC specs
A method of preventing visual bugs like this is to always check if your graphics card drivers is updated to the latest version. This is especially critical if you want to run the latest games to prevent future issues. Updating your graphics card and resetting your PC and the game could help resolve the issue. Additionally, it’s advised to check that your PC specs meet the game’s minimum or recommended requirements.
Verify Steam files
Verifying the game’s Steam files is another easy method that could help resolve the issue, but you can only do so after installing the game. To do this, go to your Steam library and right-click the game. Select the Properties option, then Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Doing this allows you to check to see if you installed the game properly, and if not, then reinstalling it could hopefully fix the issue.
Check and adjust graphics card settings
If you have an integrated graphics card and a dedicated graphics card, which is the case for most laptops, you should check to see if the game is running on the right graphics card.
To manually set the preferred GPU for Frostpunk 2, follow the steps below:
- Select the Start button, then select Settings.
- In Settings, select System > Display > Graphics.
- Under Custom Options for apps, and under Add App, select Classic App and then Browse
- In Browse, search for C: or D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Frostpunk2, select the Frostpunk2.exe and press Add
- Once you add it, click on Frostpunk 2 App and then select Options.
- In Graphics preference, select High performance.
- Select Save.
- Restart the game.
If you use an Nvidia Graphics card, you can also manually set your GPU using the Nvidia Control Panel. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Select the Start button and type in Nvidia Control Panel. Then, open the App.
- Under 3D Settings, go to Manage 3D Settings.
- Open the Program Settings tab.
- Add Frostpunk 2 from the drop-down menu.
- Under Specify the settings for this program, scroll to OpenGL Rendering GPU
- In the drop-down menu, change it from Auto-select to Your dedicated Nvidia GPU
- In the lower-right corner, select Apply
Adjust your graphics settings
If the previous methods did not work, you could try reducing your graphics and FPS settings. You do this by lowering your settings from High to Medium or Medium to Low and limiting your framerate to 30, 45, or 60 FPS. You should also try changing the Upscaling method, changing the Upscaling Quality to Performance, or disabling Upscaling. You could also try disabling Frame Generation, enabling Vertical Sync, and changing the Screen Mode to Windowed. Lastly, lowering post-processing could also help.
Disable game optimization
Another option you can try to resolve the stuttering issues is to disable GeForce game optimization. This feature usually helps games run better on NVIDIA GPUs but could cause problems in some games. To do this, open the GeForce Experience application and click the gear icon. From the left pane, select Games, and remove the checkmark beside ‘automatically optimize newly added games.’
If all other methods have failed, it is best to reinstall the game and retry all other options again. If that still doesn’t work, you can then try reaching out to Player Support using the contact form and reporting the issue.
