How to get Metal Scraps in Enshrouded

Metal Scraps are a vital resource in Enshrouded. Not only do they allow you to upgrade your gear after you’ve met the Blacksmith, but you’ll also need them to craft the Grappling Hook, an item that allows you to progress to the other areas of the game. Finding this ingredient can be tricky if you don’t know where to look, though.

Luckily for players, there’s an easy way to get more Metal Scraps early into your Enshrouded playthrough.

There are a couple of ways you can get Metal Scraps in the survival-crafting game, including through the following methods:

  • Looting human enemies
  • Destroying metal objects
  • Rare chance to spawn in chests

If you need to quickly farm the resource, though, the best way to get Metal Scraps is by looting them from human scavengers in the northwestern parts of Rookmore. I found a few of these enemies on the northern side of Braelyn Bridge and close to the Ancient Vault, shown in the image below—the same location where you find the Blacksmith. Be sure to stock up on arrows, though; these foes can pack quite the punch if you’re still in the early stages of the game.

Scavengers are a fairly common enemy type that can drop a wide variety of useful resources, though scrap metal is their best material. Go to this zone or any other area you know contains scavengers, clear it out, and loot the enemies. I typically pick up two to three scrap metal from an encounter with a group of scavengers, so you should expect to be here awhile if you’re looking to acquire large amounts of the resource.

While you’re at the Ancient Vault, keep an eye open for metal containers, like the one shown in the image below. Smaller metal containers can be quickly destroyed and have a chance to drop the resource you’re looking for. The larger ones take a while to destroy, though, and attacking them will slowly whittle away your weapon’s durability. So if you’re still a low level and don’t have powerful weapons, stick to the smaller containers.

Metal Scraps are needed to create a variety of items and equipment. One of the earliest quests requires you to speak to the Blacksmith, who will task you with creating either a Scrappy Sword or a Spiked Club—both of which require nails. And you know what nails need? That’s right: Metal Scraps. Another item you’ll need to progress to other regions of the map is the Grappling Hook. You’ll need four Metal Scraps for this item, in addition to String and Shrouded Spores.

Here are an array of early items created with Metal Scraps that will greatly benefit you if you’re just starting out:

Item Required Ingredients
Fur Chest 2 String
1 Torn Cloth
3 Animal Fur
2 Metal Scraps
Lockpick 1 Metal Scrap
Forge 30 Stone
10 Metal Scraps
10 Charcoal
12 Wood Logs
Scrappy Pickaxe 8 Metal Scraps
1 Shroud Wood
Scrappy Sword 1 Wood Log
3 Metal Scraps
2 Nails

If you’re still new to Enshrouded, we highly recommend you craft the Scrappy Axe and Fur Armor set to increase your next level of damage and armor. Though you can craft much better gear later on, this is sure to get you started.
