Star Wars Outlaws is the first-ever open-world adventure game set in Star Wars‘ huge space-fantasy universe, so it stands to reason that eager players would want to explore the galaxy far, far away with friends at their sides—though Ubisoft’s narrative focus may have put paid to those dreams this time around.
Here’s everything we know about co-op in Star Wars Outlaws.
Does Star Wars Outlaws have co-op multiplayer?
No, Star Wars Outlaws doesn’t offer cooperative play or multiplayer modes. Instead, the Ubisoft adventure game is designed to be single-player only.
This was recently confirmed by Ubisoft’s Star Wars narrative director Navid Khavari (via Eurogamer), who responded to questions about co-op by saying: “We’re super focused on delivering a single-player experience.”
This may come as a disappointment to players who have sunk many hours into the likes of Star Wars Battlefront with buddies, it’s nothing new for modern Star Wars titles; Jedi Survivor was also strictly a single-player title.
Many other Ubisoft games are also exclusively single-player only, like most entries in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and an easy way to tell whether co-op features are available in a story-driven game is whether there is a character creator. Outlaws doesn’t have the option to create your character. While you may be able to customize weapons and attire, you won’t be creating a new character from scratch.
No co-op doesn’t mean the adventure in Star Wars Outlaws will be a lonely affair though. You’re accompanied by Nix, your trusty merqaal companion, and will meet many other characters on your travels across the stars.
You’ll also meet several famed Star Wars characters in your Outlaws adventure, including crime lord Jabba the Hutt and swindler-come-rebel Lando Calrissian.
