The League of Legends Worlds anthem performance is a special event in gaming each year, and signs are pointing to a band that recently made a comeback taking the stage for 2024.
It appears that legendary rock band Linkin Park may be the headliners of Worlds 2024, as first noticed by Korizon’s Ashley Kang. A recent reply by the @lolesports account started the rumor, but it appears there could be even more to it.
Linkin Park announced its comeback last week, featuring a new lineup that includes new singer Emily Armstrong. The band has been inactive since 2017 following the death of lead singer Chester Bennington, but the group announced an altered lineup, new album, single, and world tour last week.
The @lolesports Twitter/X account replied to a video of the band’s live debut of its new single, “The Emptiness Machine,” with a crown emoji. As Kang noticed, a song from the band’s upcoming album From Zero is titled “Heavy is the Crown.”
And now, this morning, the LoL UK account posted a roadmap leading up to Worlds 2024 in London. The opening ceremony and finals take place on Nov. 2, but the Worlds 2024 anthem is set to debut on Sept. 24.
Interestingly enough, what’s also happening on Sept. 24 is that Linkin Park will be playing the fourth of its six shows this year at The O2 Arena in, you guessed it, London. It’s possible that the show could be a part of the announcement of “Heavy is the Crown” as the anthem for Worlds 2024.
Previous artists providing the League Worlds anthem include Imagine Dragons, Zedd, Lil Nas X, The Glitch Mob, and NewJeans. The anthem performance during the opening ceremony each year is a highly anticipated part of the tournament.
