As Worlds season approaches, League of Legends fans might be in for a stellar surprise. Riot Games unveiled a new graphic today that teases a slew of upcoming skins—and among them, there’s a hint at the return of a beloved skin line.
The League Worlds roadmap features several notable additions to the Rift, including the new 2024 Worlds Viego skin and the Fright Night skins—which will also feature a Prestige edition for Zeri—both set to make their debut on Sept. 25, the first day of Worlds 2024. But the most intriguing aspect of the graphic is the hint at a mysterious “skin drop” scheduled for Oct. 23.
This date is accompanied by a hollow graphic that resembles a black hole with an iridescent hue around it. This visual cue has fans speculating about the possible return of the Dark Star skin line, a series that has not seen new additions since 2020—except for the controversial Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin chroma.
The Dark Star skins are part of the Event Horizon universe in League, where each champion represents a cosmic ethereal being able “to bend and shape the universe with their will,” as described by Riot.
With the last Dark Star skins released four years ago, the prospect of their return has fans reaching for the stars. The cosmic theme and dark, nebulous designs of these skins set them apart in the League universe as some of the best cosmetics a player could want for their favorite champion. If the mysterious graphic is any indication, Riot might be poised to reintroduce this popular skin line during Worlds 2024, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
As we orbit closer to Oct. 23, the anticipation is set to reach astronomical levels. Whether the Dark Star skin line is making a comeback or the graphic is heralding an entirely new galactic adventure, Riot’s latest teaser has certainly set the stage for a stellar Worlds season.
