Space Marine 2 to get ‘either DLC or sequel’ after massively successful launch

Following the breakout success of Space Marine 2, which has become the most-played Warhammer 40,000 game ever made, Saber Interactive’s chief creative officer Tim Willits spoke with IGN on how the title will affect the studio going forward—and even hinted at a possible DLC or sequel in the works.

In the Sept. 23 interview, the studio’s creative head said how the title’s massive launch “changes everything,” and that he told that same thing to the game’s developers during a company party. “I gave a little 30-second speech and I told the whole team, this changes everything we do moving forward,” Willits explained. He went on to say that this, indeed, encompasses every single game and project that Saber Interactive is working, or will work on, and added that Space Marine 2‘s success will lead Saber to developing “far better products in the future.”

Of course, now that the game has made a name for itself in such a sweeping manner, Saber Interactive is already planning on a potential sequel or DLC that IGN reports as “a case of when not if.” Willits said Saber Interactive’s game director Dmitry Grigorenko “has proposed some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel,” adding how the studio “needs the dust to settle” before starting plans on something entirely new. However, as Willits pointed out, the developers at Saber hope they’ll continue “working on Space Marine content for a long time.”

A potential Space Marine 3 title would require renewed cooperation between Saber, Focus, and Games Workshop, the report reads, but Willits said the parties just “have to figure it out,” and that he would definitely “love to do it.”

With a peak concurrent player number of 225,690 (thanks SteamDB), Space Marine 2 has been crowned as the most successful 40K endeavor in the video game world (even Henry Cavill loved it), with the developers eager to continue supporting the game with new additions such as new classes and other additional content.
