The end of the competitive year has arrived for many League of Legends teams, including Team Heretics, who failed to produce any success over the course of the year. As a result, management might be making some major changes, with a focus on a single superstar player.
According to Sheep Esports’ Marian Stoica, Team Heretics is allowing top laner Wunder, jungler Jankos, mid laner Zwyroo, and support Trymbi to explore their options for 2025, with the staff building a new lineup around superstar AD carry Flakked. Stoica also reports the coaching staff was behind this significant move, and that head coach Machuki will be staying onboard to lead the new team into the next season.
At the start of 2024, hype levels had grown significantly around Heretics after they acquired and reunited Wunder, Jankos, and Perkz as part of its star-studded LEC top side. The trio won countless championships and dominated the league together in the past, but this time, they finished the Winter Split with an abysmal 4-5 record and an early exit from the playoffs.
After that disappointing split, the coaching staff swapped out Perkz and Kaiser for Zwyroo and Trymbi, but much to their dismay, they still failed to bring home a trophy after falling out of the 2024 Spring Playoffs against Fnatic. Even though the same roster ran it back for the 2024 Summer Split, they saw a drop in performance where they finished in sixth place, losing to GIANTX in a three-game set.
The team’s reliance on veteran talent did not yield any worthwhile results, and now, it seems like the staff is pressing the reset button on its efforts in the LEC. Granted, Flakked is a good starting point at 23 years old, having built a reputation as one of the best AD carry players in the region.
They will need to tap into various sources for talent to achieve the success they seek, whether that’s from their academy team, other free agents, or up-and-coming stars from the European Regional Leagues.
