‘That’s a lot of water’: CoD players worried for Warzone after new map leaks

Call of Duty players have been treated to a wide range of Black Ops 6 leaks this past couple of weeks, but last weekend’s unintended reveal of what looks like the title’s planned Warzone map already has some fans bailing out in lifeboats.

The map, known as Avalon, was shown off by dataminers throughout much of last weekend following a huge wave of leaks containing videos and images of Black Ops 6. Screenshots were taken and posted online, and while most were swiftly removed, many CoD players across social media managed to glimpse the new map.

One of the images shared included a player standing on a small cliff surrounded by water, while a now-deleted clip from X/Twitter user “wealthygamesx” gave us a bird’s eye view of Avalon: A largely rural zone with a mixture of open fields and buildings—and plenty of flooded plains and small islands. Some players immediately pointed out similarities between the Avalon preview and Caldera, which was largely considered one of Warzone‘s worst-ever maps when it first came to the series with Vanguard.

“Nothing but open fields and water, no thanks,” one player said, while another remembered the community’s backlash to Caldera’s arrival and that, after a few seasons, many noted the map had improved thanks to the gradual removal of water. “I like the vibe and a lot of the individual locations look cool, but that’s a lot of water,” another said.

Activision hasn’t even confirmed the new Warzone map yet, with it likely to be shown off at the CoD Next event in August, but fans are already making it clear they don’t like what they’re seeing. It may be too far along in the development process to alter the map before it drops with Black Ops 6, so it may be a repeat of the Caldera experience in that fans will need to wait a couple of seasons to see the changes they want applied.

At the same time, the community really shouldn’t jump the gun over a few grainy screenshots and a clip of the new map. We’ll definitely know more in coming weeks leading up to the Black Ops 6 beta on Aug. 30 and the launch in October, but in any case, be sure to pack your swimsuit before dropping into Avalon in Warzone.
