What does ringing the bell do in Black Myth Wukong?

Black Myth: Wukong is packed with secrets, optional bosses, and missable content, starting in the very first chapter. After beating a boss, you might’ve encountered an interactable bell—but should you ring the bell, and what does it do? I’ll explain everything here.

Yes, you should ring the bell in Black Myth: Wukong. There are actually three bells, and if you ring them all, you unlock an optional boss fight.

After you ring a bell, you get some dialog saying its chime will surely awaken the Yaoguai of the forest—but don’t worry, it doesn’t make the enemies harder (unlike in Sekiro).

You’ll find the first bell after the Guangzhi boss fight in chapter one (who’s entirely missable—go directly ahead instead of past the Wandering Wight to find him). The second bell is after the Guangmou boss fight, who summons snakes to poison you, but this boss isn’t missable. The third bell is after the Whiteclad Noble boss fight. Head left into the cave to find the bell.

After ringing all three bells, you get teleported into a new, secret area to face a very challenging optional boss—Elder Jinchi. He’s tough to take down in the early game, especially when you’re decked out in shabby robes with nothing but a gnarled wooden staff, so don’t worry if you’re struggling. You can always come back later.
