When is the next Smite 2 update? New Gods, game modes, and more

Smite 2 is out in the wild for its 24/7 closed beta, but the hard work is far from over. We’ve got all the details on Hi Rez Studios’ plans for Smite 2’s future and what they entail in our guide below.

The original Smite had a stacked roster of playable Gods and Goddesses, but Smite 2 only has 23 at launch, although that number is growing. On top of that, many players may notice their favorite game mode is missing. The good news is that all this and more will be addressed in future updates, so keep reading to find out what’s coming.

No official date has been announced for the next Smite 2 update, though we have a rough idea. In a post on the official website, executive producer Travis Brown said the plan is to drop a new release every three weeks.

Smite 2’s last update came on Aug. 27, at the start of the 24/7 closed alpha, so we expect the next update to be around Tuesday, Sept. 17. However, the update could be any day that week and might be delayed if there are any issues.

We’ll update this article accordingly if a more accurate time and date for the next Smite 2 update are revealed.

What Gods are being added next to Smite 2?

Two Gods and Goddesses are planned to be added in every Smite 2 update. Some releases will consist of two Classic Gods, while others will have one Classic God and an all-new God.

Although not publicly announced, Nu Wa and Ametarasu are expected to be the two Gods added in the next Smite 2 update, as they were trialed in flash tests on Steam recently, which are announced on Discord.

What new game modes are coming?

The crop of game modes in Smite 2 will increase throughout development, although we don’t have precise timelines for when they’ll be added. However, we do know what is coming.

Joust will be the next game mode to be added to Smite 2, bringing the popular three-versus-three mode from the original game to the new title. Duel is also due to be added, though it is unclear whether it will come at the same time as Joust or later down the line.

After the releases of Joust and Duel, Assault is expected to be the next game mode added.

Other planned updates

Alongside new content drops, the Smite 2 devs are working on other significant updates to the core gameplay experience. No dates for these updates have been announced, but we have been given an idea of what to expect:

  • Improving onboarding of new players: Welcome videos, Arena and Conquest tutorials, new player quests, new player level up rewards, and new player daily login rewards.
  • Improving in-game experience for new players: New player-focused item store improvements, item builder, jungle wayfinding signposts, console screen space setting, and more.
  • Competitive improvements: More detailed end of match stats, ranked leaderboards, role priority queuing, and spectator mode.
  • More progression systems: “This is somewhat intentionally vague. But we are excited for some new systems that we just aren’t ready to share more about yet.”
  • Toxicity: Improvements to Deserter and AFK system, improved tools for customer support, “hidden, behind-the-scenes work to address toxicity that we can’t fully talk about yet.”
