All eyes in the One Piece card game community have turned towards the next impending bans and restrictions list, with several powerful character cards and leaders expected to come under the gong in the update.
The One Piece OP-08 metagame has been running for some time in the East, with Hearts Pirate captain Trafalgar Law already crowned undisputed King of the Pirates for this ongoing format. He, along with several outlier Black decks, has led many to start counting down the days until restrictions drop.
Here’s when Bandai will unveil these long-awaited One Piece bans.
Next One Piece TCG ban list date
The next One Piece TCG ban list will be announced on Monday, Aug. 12. Bandai Namco confirmed all impending bans (and maybe some restrictions) would be unveiled on that date when speaking about the short-term future of the famed One Piece card game in a huge announcement video late in June.
There’s no confirmed date for when the bans will then go into effect.
There are some question marks around whether this restrictions list will be implemented in the Western format simultaneously with the East. Last time around, Bandai held fire on restricting cards in the West until the next set.
The biggest reason for the split is Japanese and Eastern players are already in the OP-08 metagame while the U.S. and the West only just started OP-07.
Which One Piece cards will be banned?
Bandai has yet to confirm which cards will be restricted or removed from the One Piece card game’s competitive scene, but there are some strong possibilities.
Foremost among the cards One Piece players want to see banned is the dual-color Red Purple Trafalgar Law leader card included in the Three Captains ultimate deck earlier this year. This Law leader has established itself as a dominant force in the OP-07 metagame and shapes as the best deck in the format once it gets its hand on several strong Red and Purple cards in the next set, Two Legends.
Another card in the danger zone is the eight-cost Gecko Moria card that boasts 9,000 power and resurrects a four-cost and a two-cost from your trash. While it’s bang-on flavor-wise, it’s turned many Black decks into S-Tier contenders.
Other possible bans and restrictions could land on utility character cards like Gordon and Raise Max (both played in RP Law) or Black Maria from OP-08.
