Riot’s next frontier is PvP MMO shooters, with job listing suggesting Project T is a go

Riot Games, the studio behind famed games like League of Legends and VALORANT, is reportedly venturing into yet another new genre with a player-vs-player MMO shooter, codenamed “Project T.” While it’s long been rumored, leaks and job listings have now seemingly confirmed the ambitious release.

The news was most recently leaked by PlayerIGN on X, known for his reliable insights into upcoming games. His team, @404Leak, disclosed Riot is working on a first-person shooter (FPS) PvP title, speculated to be “Project T.” This game apparently aims to compete with heavyweights like Destiny 2 and—if it stays the same during development—will reportedly feature seasons and personal quarters progression.

Project T initially surfaced through a job listing that has since been taken down, referring to an “Unpublished R&D Product” and mentioning FPS elements. Riot’s job postings hint at a game with a large scope, likely targeting both PC and console platforms and featuring a live service model. The game’s development involves multiple employees, including combat designers and animators, indicating pretty substantial progress.

Speculation about Project T being set in the VALORANT universe has since been fueled by a VALORANT survey asking players about their interest in different games. There’s no concrete evidence on that front yet though. One thing that does seem more certain is Project T appears to be a separate project from the much-anticipated and delayed League MMORPG, focusing instead on the FPS and PvP elements.

Further details from a Reddit post shared some months back claim Project T will include an in-game economy that will allow players to buy and sell items as well as a global market system similar to those found in most MMORPGs. The game’s reported design emphasizes character and personal quarters progression, hinting at a player housing feature where players can customize their space and prepare for missions.

Overall, Project T sounds like it could be a very ambitious MMOFPS with competitive PvP elements and RPG features. With Riot’s track record and the game’s seemingly promising design, it could become quite a significant player in the genre quite quickly.
