Fortnite fans left devastated after a horror game gets huge FNAF collab instead

It’s been a hefty day for Five Night at Freddy‘s fans as they celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary. The franchise’s creator, Scott Cawthon, teased a major collaboration earlier today, with many Fortnite fans and leakers betting it would be the battle royale, but that’s not the case.

The FNAF announcement happened several hours after Cawthon teased it, prompting fans to look for another social media account to learn about the collaboration. Fans were in a frenzy for hours, trying to figure out what game would get the distinguished crossover. Fortnite seemed like a reliable choice to many fans. With so many FNAF games, the crossover could have featured any of the featured killer animatronics.

Instead, it was Dead by Daylight that came up trumps, with Behaviour Interactive sharing the official announcement alongside confirmation it would be coming in Summer 2025. We don’t have an exact time within that time frame or what this collaboration will feature. Given previous Dead by Daylight collaborations, we can expect a handful of distinct killers from FNAF, hunting down various Survivors in the one-vs-four cat-and-mouse game.

Fortnite fans have been devastated by the news, especially given how unexpected it was—at least to them. Fortnite leaker HYPEX was surprised, sharing that everyone was guessing the crossover would instead be Fortnite or Stumble Guys.

Others had guessed it would be with CLOAK, the clothing brand owned by YouTuber Markiliper, who denied the big announcement was about them. This stoked Fortnite fans even more to believe it was coming to their battle royale.

The backlash across the Fortnite fandom has been fast and furious. Redditor /u/Fortguy 37 created a thread asking if others were also angry about the collab announcement. In the responses though, many highlighted why it makes sense since Fortnite only does a Halloween event once a year, and Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer horror game where friends work together to survive a menacing killer.

Although this significant announcement was about FNAF and Dead by Daylight, it doesn’t mean Fortnite can’t get one in the future. There’s always time for Cawthon and Epic to share a collaboration (especially with how eager everyone was) but this time, it’s Dead by Daylight players who get their time to enjoy the collab.

FNAF won’t make its way over to Dead by Daylight until 2025, but fans have plenty to look forward to, especially with the Castlevania collaboration on the horizon.
