Can you play Reanimal solo?

Reanimal is the next horror adventure from the creators of Little Nightmares, but this time, there’s a focus on co-op mechanics. If you’re intrigued by Reanimal but don’t want to play with someone else, we’re here to tell you whether it’s possible to play solo.

Horror games and movies are often best experienced with a friend, but if you don’t have mates willing to be scared out of their wits or you aren’t a fan of teamwork, you likely want to take on Reanimal solo. Here’s everything you need to know about whether the game has a single-player option.

Can you play Reanimal single-player?

You can play the entirety of Reanimal solo, but as this is technically a co-op game, you won’t be playing alone. While those who play co-op can play with a buddy on the couch or with someone online, those who play solo will be assigned an AI companion.

Reanimal’s gameplay involves a lot of co-op mechanics, requiring you to work with someone else to solve puzzles and progress. As you can’t do this alone, the AI buddy acts as the second of the two orphan sibling protagonists.

When you play with AI, you can choose which of the two siblings you wish to play as, with the AI taking the other role. We hope this AI buddy is finely tuned because there’s nothing worse than being forced to play with a computer-controlled character that keeps making silly mistakes.

To confirm, you must place with the AI if you want to play solo, and there is no option to control both characters. This is meant to be a co-op game, after all. Our advice is to try and team up with a friend or someone online, because it sounds like playing co-op provides the optimal experience.
