Remedy is bringing two of its biggest games to the big screen

Remedy Entertainment scored a big hit last year with Alan Wake 2, and the company has announced some interesting new plans to for the future of Alan Wake and one of their other biggest games.

In a new press release, the company announced they are teaming up with independent production company Annapurna Pictures to help co-finance 50 percent of Control 2, the sequel to the 2019 third-person shooter about a woman investigating a mysterious government bureau with a suite of supernatural powers. Not only did Control create a new hit franchise for Remedy, it also had a crossover with the Alan Wake series and created a shared universe between the two games.

Annapurna’s involvement in the future of the Control series doesn’t stop at just video games. Because while Remedy will be hard at work bringing the sequel to gamers as quickly as possible, Annapurna will gain the rights to option both this and the Alan Wake series for film and television projects. Neither company was clear if these projects will be direct adaptations or new stories set within the same continuity of the games, instead boasting about how this partnership would expand the franchises and open new doors for storytelling.

Remedy allowing live action adaptations of their games is a bit ironic, considering they already incorporate live action moments in their games. Quantum Break featured a live action television show that changed depending on the player’s choices. Both Control and Alan Wake 2 also incorporated several live action sequences, with cutscenes interwoven with the gameplay and collectibles. There’s no doubt Control 2, and several other Remedy projects, will also have some live action elements thrown in as well.

But with a company like Annapurna known for producing and distributing several critically acclaimed shows and movies as well as some games, Remedy’s live action efforts could be stepped up tremendously.
