The best moveset for Rillaboom in Pokémon Go

Rillaboom is one of the starter Pokémon you get in the Galar region while playing Pokémon Sword and Shield, and it’s made its way to Pokémon Go. For anyone wanting to add Rillaboom to their team, it’s important to know the best attacks it can use.

These moves are critical, as a Pokémon can learn fewer attacks than in a traditional Pokémon game. If you’re looking to optimize any Pokémon, teaching it the best attacks is critical, and you also want to know where to use it. Not every Pokémon is suitable for the Battle League for Pokémon Go, but they might be useful elsewhere. Here’s what you need to know about Rillaboom’s best moveset.

When using Rillaboom in Pokémon Go, the best moveset it can learn is the fast move Razor Leaf and the charged moves Earth Power and Energy Ball. Although Rillaboom does have access to a Ground-type attack, it’s an entirely Grass-type move, making it weak against Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice, and Poison-type attacks.

Of the fast moves Rillaboom can learn in Pokémon Go, Razor Leaf is the best choice without any argument. The only other attack it can learn would be Scratch, which is a Normal-type attack, and it doesn’t provide a lot of energy. Razor Leaf is a Grass-type attack that does far more damage than Scratch, and Rillaboom receives an attack bonus for using it as a Grass-type Pokémon. Unfortunately, Razor Leaf doesn’t provide much energy, the same amount as Scratch, but the damage increase makes it the best choice.

Moving on to Rillaboom’s charged moves, there are several more options than the fast moves. However, there’s still not too many here. We expect to see these increase when Rillaboom receives its Community Day in the future, but for now, these are all the charged moves Rillaboom can learn in Pokémon Go:

  • Earth Power (Ground-type)
  • Energy Ball (Grass-type)
  • Grass Knot (Grass-type)

There are only three charged moves for Rillaboom to pick from. Earth Power and Energy Ball are easily the best choices of these three. Although Rillaboom receives an attack bonus for using Grass-type attacks, Earth Power is a decisive Ground-type move you don’t want to miss out on. It’s a powerful attack against Electric, Fire, Poison, Rock, and Steel-types, with Fire and Poison-type Pokémon countering Rillaboom.

Is Rillaboom good in Pokémon Go?

With its initial release, Rillaboom is a midrange Pokémon. It’s not strong or weak, and it could be better. Thankfully, we predict it will become stronger the longer it remains in Pokémon Go as all starter Pokémon from the traditional games eventually receive their own Community Days, unlocking their Shiny forms. Expect to primarily use Rillaboom against Team Rocket and in PvE battles, but not in the Battle League.

We don’t know when Rillaboom will get this day, but when it does, it’ll get a powerful attack that makes it a great choice. Hold onto Rillaboom for now; it’s a worthwhile investment.
