After just a few days, positive reviews have been flowing in on Steam for Witchfire, the latest game from The Vanishing of Ethan Carter developer The Astronauts. Players control a deadly assassin—known as a “preyer”—who fights against the witch’s forces with access to distinctive weapons, spells, and artifacts.
The single-player RPG shooter encapsulates the vision of the minds behind 2004’s Painkiller and 2011’s Bulletstorm, known at the time as People Can Fly. Gunplay is a key component to Witchfire and each weapon has a unique look and play style. In order to become the most fearsome witch hunter alive, you’ll need to know a little bit about each of them.
Every weapon in Witchfire
There are four different kinds of weapons in Witchfire: close range, medium range, long range, and demonic weapons. Additionally, every weapon has a three-tier upgrade system called a Mysteria, and every upgrade has specific requirements that need to be met. In total, there are 16 weapons players can use in Witchfire currently.
Here are all the available weapons in Witchfire after the game’s official release.
Note: Only a handful of weapons were available in Witchfire during the game’s early access run, but The Ghost Galleon update—the game’s first expansion—introduced a whole new range of weaponry to improve the Preyer’s efficiency.
The Astronauts originally released an early-access version of Witchfire last September, but the developer re-released the game with new improvements. Over the course of the past year, player feedback has played a pivotal role in shaping the game and continues to be taken into consideration going forward.
Early access is intended to end sometime in 2025, at which time the full version of Witchfire will be released. Currently, there are three accessible areas in Witchfire out of a possible six, as the other half are still undergoing development. According to The Astronauts’ Roadmap for Witchfire, the finished product will not only feature six gigantic maps, but also over 40 enemies, more than 30 distinct weapons, and at least 20 spells overall.
How to unlock weapons in Witchfire
Now that you know a little about all the weapons in Witchfire, it would probably be helpful to know how to obtain them. To unlock weapons in Witchfire, just interact with the Workshop Vendor in the Hermitorium. In order to do this, make your way to the church and interact with the levitating mirror—you can’t miss it. Doing so will bring up a menu that encourages you to spend gold in exchange for new weapons and spells to fight off the witch’s army.
This is the same place where you can acquire Mysteria Incantations as well, which are used to upgrade weapons in Witchfire. To upgrade weapons, you’ll need to research a Second Mysterium (i.e. the “second tier” of the weapon in question) Incantation to the right of the Workshop Mirror. For a Third Mysterium, simply gather enough Research, bring it back, and rinse and repeat.
