Dynamax Pokémon have made their debut in Pokémon Go, and with their arrival, several added features have also shaken up the core gameplay. One notable feature players are curious about is whether Gigantamax Pokémon are in the game and if we can get them.
Gigantamax Pokémon are different from Dynamax Pokémon. It was a mechanic also introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and a Gigantamax Pokémon is a stronger version of a Dynamax Pokémon. Not only is a Gigantamax Pokémon more powerful, but it also has a unique design that dramatically differs from the original form. But are Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go?
Can you get Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go?
We have a confusing answer for Pokémon Go players. Niantic confirmed on their FAQ page regarding Dynamax Pokémon that Gigantamax Pokémon are not coming out at the same time as other Dynamax Pokémon. As it stands, Dynamax Pokémon are the only encounters happening at Power Spots, and will be your main focus while playing the mobile game.
The FAQ page from Niantic said the team is considering adding Gigantamax Pokémon in the future, so Gigantamxing is not entirely off the table. If we see Gigantamax Pokémon, it’ll be further down the line in Pokémon Go. We could see them appear in an exclusive season, similar to how Dynamax Pokémon are the focus of the Max Out season.
Although Niantic has clarified this statement on their Dynamax page, we may get Gigantamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go sooner than we think. For anyone who clicks on a Power Spot while playing the mobile game and reads the help icon on the bottom left of the screen, Gigantamax Pokémon are specifically discussed on the final page.
The reference is from the in-game screen. It says, “You may encounter a Pokémon after visiting a Power Spot. Dynamax Pokémon might even appear if there are Gigantamax Pokémon placed at the Power Spot!”
The text implies that if a player were to place a Pokémon that can use a Gigantamax form at the Power Spot, Dynamax Pokémon could spawn. Even if Niantic has already clarified that Gigantamax Pokémon are not making their way to Pokémon Go right now, they’ve partially confirmed they could be on the way. This text may change sometime in the future, but for anyone hopeful about catching Gigantamax Pokémon, we’ll probably get them at some point.
