Yellow Brick Games, developer behind the upcoming title, first revealed Eternal Strands in April 2024. Gamers across the globe immediately drew comparisons to Shadow of the Colossus and Monster Hunter due to the game’s massive bosses and open-world gameplay. Despite the similarities, the Eternal Strands website promises “a revolutionary new system for gameplay interaction,” including real-time destruction, cold chills, and heat spreads that add new ways to battle monsters.
When is Eternal Stands’ release date?
Eternal Stands will hit digital shelves on Jan. 28, 2025, according to the game’s website. What platforms will Eternal Strands release on?
Eternal Strands will release on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Unfortunately for gamers on other platforms, the action-adventure title will be unavailable on Nintendo Switch and earlier-gen consoles. It will, however, be available on Xbox Game Pass as a Day One release, meaning anyone with a subscription can jump into the world as soon it as it becomes available to play in their region.

Eternal Strands gameplay, explained
If you’ve seen the game’s most recent release trailer, you’ve probably already drawn comparisons between this upcoming release and Shadow of the Colossus or Monster Hunter. But there’s much more to Eternal Strands than just walking in the footsteps left by those two monstrous titles.
In Eternal Strands, you play as Brynn, a Weaver who’s hellbent on recovering her people’s home. On her journey, she’ll use magical weapons and abilities that make use of gameplay physics and environmental designs as she fights towering foes. Brynn can use her abilities to explore everything the world has to offer, creating ice bridges or launching herself across obstacles with spells.
“At the heart of Eternal Strands beats a revolutionary new system for gameplay interactions: heat spreads, cold chills, and real-time destruction allows for unprecedented reactivity in combat,” the game’s website reads. “Hurl burning tree trunks at enemies with telekinetic, snap nearby trees to block opposing fire, or channel raw telekinetic force to rip boulders from the ground.”
