How to catch Scorbunny in Pokémon Go and can it be Shiny?

A new season in Pokémon Go is upon us, and finally, Galar Pokémon are available to find. If you’re on the hunt for Scorbunny or want to know whether it can be Shiny, we’ve got the answer.

Scorbunny, the fire starter in Galar, is a Pokémon that players have been waiting for in Pokémon Go, with the red-hot bunny surging in popularity following its debut in Pokémon Sword and Shield a whopping five years ago.

The Max Out season brings the Galar region into focus, and we’ve got all the info you need to score yourself a Scorbunny or two.

Scorbunny is a wild spawn in Pokémon Go and can be encountered on your adventures—but that isn’t the only way to get your hands on Scorbunny, as it will make regular appearances during the Max Out season.

A new Special Research story introduced in the Max Out season has branching paths available to choose from, each connected to one of the three Galar starters. If you choose Scorbunny, expect to encounter Scorbunny when Field Research Tasks are completed.

Finally, Scorbunny can hatch from 5km eggs during the Max Out season, so get out your walking boots!

Can Scorbunny be Shiny in Pokémon Go?

No, Scorbunny cannot be Shiny in Pokémon Go. Though this is disappointing for anyone looking to bolster their roster of Shiny Pokémon, it is to be expected. Rather than arriving immediately in the game, Shiny Scorbunny will likely be saved for a future event.

Starters from Alola were added during the Season of Alola in March 2022, but Shiny versions only arrived this year, with Rowlet in January, Litten in March, and Popplio in August.

The evolution method for Scorbunny in Pokémon Go is the same as starters from other generations and requires Scorbunny Candy, earned by catching the Pokémon. You may also get additional Scorbunny Candy for completing Field Research Tasks.

Scorbunny, like other Pokémon starters, has two stages of evolution. The first is into Raboot, before then evolving into Cinderace. The requirements for each evolution stage are below:

  • Scorbunny to Raboot: 25 Scorbunny Candy
  • Raboot to Cinderace: 100 Scorbunny Candy

If you need additional Scorbunny Candy, equip Scorbunny or Raboot as your Partner Pokémon or use a Pinap Berry when catching a Scorbunny to receive double the amount of Scorbunny Candy for a successful catch.
