How to survive fire damage in Fortnite Chapter 5, season 4

If you want to unlock Doom, you have to work through quite a few quests to obtain him and his entire set in Fortnite. He’s got some pretty tricky tasks for you, with one of the toughest asking you to survive fire damage.

This is a precarious task to complete since it’s quite easy to take too much damage and die before you get it down. It’s also not as easy to take this type of damage as you might expect since the conditions are very specific, so here’s how to survive fire damage in Fortnite.

The best way to survive fire damage in Fortnite is by blowing up a gas station and catching yourself on fire in the wreckage a total of four times. There are a few key steps you need to complete to be successful at this task, so here’s a breakdown of how to do it.

  • Make sure you have full shields and health. You need to take four instances of damage here, so it’s best to be prepared for it by ensuring you’re as healthy and protected as possible. If you don’t have full health and shield, you might perish before completing this quest.
  • Locate a gas station. You can find one by searching for the white fuel pump icon on the map. I usually prefer to go to the one right between Restored Reels and Reckless Railways when I’m looking for a station to go to, but any of them will do. I’ve noticed these icons sometimes aren’t visible, so try hopping in a vehicle if they aren’t present for you. If they’re still not there, use up some gas or damage your car a bit since this always makes the icons appear to direct you to where you can repair it.
  • Find a gas station fuel pump. These are found right by the pads you can drive onto to heal cars. They’re white with bright orange and blue accents, which makes them fairly easy to spot.

  • Break the gas station fuel pump while standing decently close to it. You can use a melee item, a gun, your pickaxe, a Marvel item like War Machine’s Arsenal or Doctor Doom’s Arcane Gauntlets, or anything else you have capable of destroying it.
  • Enter the fire sitting right where the fuel pump you destroyed was. You may have taken some slight damage from fire in the explosion, but the fire that the exploded pump leaves behind is the best source of direct fire damage for this quest.
  • Walk in and out of the fire a total of four times. You need to be separately inflicted by fire damage four times for this task, so just walk in and out of the active fire four times in a row to complete it.

While there are other ways to catch on fire like being inside a vehicle when it explodes or standing on fiery objects around the map like torches and campfires, it’s pretty tough to actually take fire damage four times any other way. These methods don’t leave behind an active fire for you to walk into, so it’s really easy to miss taking fire damage completely when trying them.

The best way to ensure this works is to use the gas station method since it always spawns a fire at the end you can walk into to get the damage you need. This fire also stays lit for quite a while, which grants you plenty of time to walk in and out of it four times as needed.

With this quest out of the way, you’re one step closer to adding Doom to your collection. There are plenty of other tasks you can move on to for additional XP and loot, like hiring characters or recruiting defeated henchmen and damaging opponents with Doctor Doom’s Arcane Gauntlets Mystical Bomb.
