After months of speculation and waiting, Sony is putting on another State of Play event to showcase what’s next for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR 2.
Here’s everything there is to know about the September 2024 State of Play.
When is the next PS5 State of Play?
The September 2024 State of Play begins on Sept. 24 at 5pm CT. The show will be “30-plus” minutes long and it will be broadcast in both English and Japanese.
How to watch State of Play
The September 2024 State of Play will be broadcast live on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels, and a VOD of the presentation will be available once it concludes.
What will be shown at State of Play?
At this point, it’s anyone’s guess on what will be shown during the September 2024 State of Play. With several Sony studios quietly working behind the scenes on new games, there’s just as much of a chance for some of them to announce something new as there is for them to say nothing at all.
The only thing we know for certain right now is that Sony confirmed this State of Play will feature “news and updates on more than 20 upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 games from studios around the world” and that the presentation will be “30-plus” minutes long.
When it comes to rumors, those are always aplenty. Speculation within the industry suggests that everything from remasters of Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone to new sequels like Resident Evil 9 may be shown during the showcase. But in reality, much of it has been kept secret for some time.
There are, however, several things to keep an eye on.
LEGO Horizon Adventures
The fun-looking LEGO Horizon Adventures has no official release date yet other than a current 2024 release window, so we should either get a release date or delay announcement soon.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC
It’s been nearly a year since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 brought Peter Parker and Miles Morales face to face with Venom on PS5. Fans of Spidey and the PS5 in general have been waiting for expansion news ever since, and it seems like this may be the event where it’s revealed.
Wolverine
Insomniac Games has been quietly working hard ever since this year’s stunning hack and leak of future content, which included several in-progress videos of the Wolverine game. Is this the time for the company to finally show how the game actually looks?
Naughty Dog’s next
The Last of Us: Part III is likely many, many years away and won’t be shown at this event, but rumors of a new singleplayer IP from the makers of Uncharted has been rumored for some time.
Sucker Punch’s next
The anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima has yet to be announced, but it’s common knowledge that Sucker Punch is working on it as a follow-up to the popular 2020 action-adventure game.
Bluepoint Games’ first
Since releasing the Demon’s Souls remake in 2020 and getting purchased by Sony in 2021, Bluepoint Games has not been heard from. But the studio is working on a new IP, and it’s been long enough that maybe, just maybe, the team is ready to reveal what it’s cooking.
Astro Bot DLC?
Astro Bot has been a massive hit since launching at the beginning of the month, and many are expecting the game to receive some sort of content after several IP and characters mentioned in the game’s credits were not found in the base game. It’s likely too soon for anything to be shown, but a confirmation of new content is possible.
Bloodborne Remaster for PS5 and PC
Surely… this is the one, right? This State of Play is THE State of Play to confirm the one FromSoftware remaster that everyone truly wants. Surely!
