Despite being almost three years old, Dying Light 2: Stay Human is still a fairly popular singleplayer zombie journey. However, as players explore the world of Villedor, they wonder if it’s possible doing so with friends from other platforms.
Crossplay is a standard in the industry nowadays, so it’s all bust surprising to see players demanding it in Dying Light 2. On top of that, the game itself features a perfect setting for a co-op adventure, with multiple enemies, parkour challenges, and other aspects being really enjoyable. Those who tried the game in the built-in co-op mode should agree.
Does Dying Light 2 have cross-platform/crossplay?
So, let’s get into the bottom of it. Is there crossplay in Dying Light 2? Well, yes and no. Unfortunately, when it comes to cross-platform crossplay, it’s not available, meaning PC players can’t enjoy the journey with PlayStation 5 or Xbox users, and so on.
However, Techland’s production includes generational crossplay. That means Xbox Series S or X users may enjoy the game with the players using the previous generation of the console, Xbox One. The same goes for PlayStation. For PC users, the case is similar, with Windows, Mac and Linux available to enjoy Dying Light 2 together.
Will there ever be a cross-platform crossplay for Dying Light 2?
Cross-platform crossplay hasn’t been a given from the start. Since we’re practically three years after the game’s release, it’s almost impossible to still have hopes that it might ever come. However, Techland’s developers claim this could happen at one point in the future.
The director of Dying Light franchise at Techland, Tymon Smektała, said that a cross-platform crossplay is still a possibility. “It’s still an option we’re considering yet all of it is a matter of managing priorities, resources and real value of various features. The dream is still there,” Smektała told mp1st in March 2024. While it’s comforting for those who have their friends scattered across different consoles, we wouldn’t get your hopes up if we were you.
Is Dying Light 2’s co-op still worth playing?
Often when players search for crossplay options, it’s because they want to connect with their friends from other platforms. While that’s not yet possible, and unlikely to ever be, it’s still worth getting Dying Light 2 and trying out the game for yourself or with other players. Luckily, the title seems far from dead and seems to sustain a healthy community.
While taking a peak into Xbox or PlayStation’s stats is quite impossible, we have an idea of how many players are enjoying Dying Light 2 on PCs. In October 2024, the game had 4,202 average players on Steam, according to Steam Charts. The peak for September, on the other hand, is 10,720. And that is Steam alone, with the game available on other platforms like Epic Games.
Future Dying Light titles might introduce cross-platform crossplay
Furthermore, a fresh standalone title called Dying Light: The Beast is currently in development, with original protagonist Kyle Crane back in action. It started out as a DLC for Dying Light 2, but was transformed into a full-scale singleplayer game in the process. It was first showcased at Gamescom 2024, with reactions being mostly positive. Maybe that’s the one which will bring a cross-platform crossplay into the franchise? We keep our fingers crossed.
Dying Light: The Beast will be free for all the owners of Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition. So if you’re still wondering whether you should get the game, there’s no better time than now. The upcoming adventure still hasn’t got a release date, but we expect it to arrive sometime in 2025.
