Marvel Rivals’ official release is quickly approaching, with the game scheduled to launch on Dec. 6—but those hoping to play via another open beta before it premieres won’t get a chance to.
Marvel Rivals’ lead combat designer Zhiyong Feng and executive producer Danny Koo spoke about the future of the game in an interview with YouTuber bogur on Aug. 25 including plans for an upcoming beta—or the lack thereof. “Currently we have no plans for [an] open beta,” Koo said. “We announced the release date for Dec. 6 and all heroes are free to play and already unlocked. Beyond that, any new heroes that come in, you’ll be able to play for free.”
Additionally, the two developers also shed light on future plans regarding new content in Marvel Rivals once it launches. They aim to ship a roadmap before it goes live, giving fans more information about what type of content will arrive in the game after launch. “When it’s closer to launch, we will provide a roadmap to set an expectation [of] what you would see at launch and beyond,” Koo said.
As of now, Marvel Rivals features 25 heroes, or at least that’s how many of them were in its closed beta from July 23 to Aug. 5. That number is expected to rise, though, and we believe we will learn about them in the mentioned roadmap. With the massive amount of characters in the comic books, there’s plenty of inspiration to look for especially since popular movie figures like Thanos, Wolverine, Deadpool, or Daredevil are yet missing from the roster, just to name a few.
The entire interview takes exactly 16 minutes, and in that time span, both developers answer a bunch of other questions. They underline how they want Marvel Rivals’ heroes to be “as fun as possible,” explaining the combat design, and more. A fair bit of the conversation revolves around the launch which is only three and a half months away.
