Rockstar’s fabled Bully game gets another rating, further fueling fans’ hopes for remaster

Shortly after it was uncovered that Bully, Rockstar’s iconic action-adventure game, was re-rated in Taiwan, fans spotted that yet another rating was filed, this time in Australia. All of this, and the eerie silence on Rockstar’s end, have prompted fans to believe a remake or remaster is coming.

The rating was filed with the Australian Classification Board on Aug. 2, much earlier than the Taiwanese counterpart that apparently came in on Aug. 19, according to Gematsu. This immediately caused players to put on their tinfoil hats and speculate on the possible remaster or remake of Bully, which first launched all the way back in 2006. It was also banned in Taiwan itself and was re-rated for both PS5 and PS4 in the country, despite already being available on the latter through backward compatibility.

The sudden nature of these rating filings also gave rise to some skepticism regarding any potential major work on the IP, including a remake or remaster. Paired with how Rockstar handled the GTA Trilogy remasters, there wasn’t much room for optimism, but fans still hold hope that the company will do something with the iconic game. The company later announced it’s bringing Bully to the GTA+ service, which some believe is the reason behind all of these filings. But, as one fan on Reddit pointed out, it seems strange that the game would also receive ratings for PC when GTA+ is a console-only service.

Rockstar has always been a secretive company, opting only to talk about its plans when they’re more or less ready for major public attention. Whether or not it will go down the path of remaking or visually upgrading Bully for the current generation is unclear, though it would be mighty fine to see the developer’s classics shining under modern lights.
