Should you keep your Pokémon at Power Spots in Pokémon Go?

Power Spots are new landmarks you can find while playing Pokémon Go. These locations are similar to PokéStops and Gyms, but not entirely the same. After battling a Dynamax Pokémon, there’s an option for your Pokémon to remain there—but is it really the best thing to do?

There are a handful of benefits to doing this. You do lose access to the Pokémon, and there are some aftereffects you’ll want to consider if you’d rather keep that Pokémon with you. You can also use them at other locations in Pokémon Go. Here’s what you need to know about why you should keep Pokémon at Power Spots and what you can do to prepare.

When you leave a Pokémon at a Power Spot, they remain at that location until the Power Spot moves. A timer at each Power Spot landmark shows how long it will stay there until it moves. When it does move, all Pokémon stationed at that location return to their trainers, and you get them back in your Pokémon Go collection. However, keeping a Pokémon at a Power Spot does not give you Max Particles.

You may be hesitant to keep a Pokémon at a Power Spot because only Pokémon that can Dynamax can go in these locations. This limits the Pokémon in your collection that you can use here. Power Spots rotate and can appear in other locations, unlike PokéStops or Gyms that remain at specific landmarks.

The benefits are a boon to you, though. While a Pokémon remains at a Power Spot, they provide you with Candy, as they assist other players against Dynamax Pokémon that appear at that location. The more Pokémon stationed at a Power Spot, the more attack bonuses players get when they battle there in Pokémon Go.

You can choose to leave a Pokémon at a Power Spot and decide to bring it back manually, so you’re not locked out of your Pokémon until a Power Spot disappears. You won’t get further benefits for bringing them back manually, but you may choose to do this if you don’t have any other Pokémon that can battle a Power Spot in your collection.

There’s always a benefit to placing a Pokémon in a Power Spot after defeating a Dynamax Pokémon. We highly recommend stationing a Pokémon at a Power Spot following these battles, even if you don’t have too many Pokémon you can use in Dynamax Battles. If you find a Dynamax Pokémon at a Power Spot and don’t have any available, recall a Pokémon from a Power Spot you already completed. It’s always worth jumping into these Dynamax Battles in Pokémon Go.
