The Crew 2 has surged to new records on Steam following the announcement of an added offline option and a bargain sale.
The 2018 title is available on Steam for just one dollar and, after some good news about The Crew 2’s future, has now surged past 28,000 concurrent players at the time of writing—with the record breaking almost every minute.
The sale comes alongside a big decision from Ubisoft who, having earned backlash for shutting down the servers for the first game in The Crew series in March, announced an offline mode for The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest would be coming in the future—a further piece of good news for fans of the franchise.
The Crew 2’s new record on Steam more than doubles its previous best, a figure of around 12,000 set during a free-play weekend in July 2021. It also significantly eclipses the Steam player base for Motorfest, the most recent entry in the series, though that title set a new all-time peak of 1,364 yesterday.
Coupled together, the two pieces of news have resulted in a huge boost for The Crew franchise, particularly at a time when the explorer-driving sim genre is in a difficult position as Forza Horizon 5 is now deep into its lifespan and Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has been plagued with server issues.
Anyone looking to take advantage of The Crew 2’s bargain price has only a limited time to do so, as the Steam listing for the game says the special promotion will end on Sept. 23.
